Wasn't Chernobyl in Ukraine? Are they just okay with having a huge area just be uninhabitable for a few generations?

Glad to see the creativity there, that's hilarious

So, question, lets say people go through this process of harassing this person at the address shown in this screenshot of a tweet. Then it turns out, the user that posted this didn't do their due diligence and an innocent person ends up getting their windows smashed, phone called, etc. Does anyone actually apologize or take ownership of the damage that was caused? Any oversight on fact-checking if the info given is actually for a Nazi before throwing all this hate?

Getting a green card, even after marriage, typically takes 6 months at a minimum. If they started the process now, she could still be deported within Trump's 100 days

Honestly looks like it was the correct training response

True, but in this case, I originally posted this with a paraphrased title. It's fixed now

I mean, it is a possibility. The current swing states (28 Oct) are AZ, GA, NV, NC, PA, WI, and MI, based on NYTimes polls. If Kamala only wins WI, NV, (NC or GA), and AZ, then both candidates end up with 268 electoral votes, and congress chooses the president.

Another option is kamala wins AZ, NC, and GA.

Doing some quick math, that's a 2.4% chance of happening

If Kamala and trump both tie the electoral college, which it is looking like a possibility, a new president would be chosen by the new Congress on Jan 6th. Scary to think about

Howdy! I am planning to move to the southeast part of Michigan around this new years. I am excited to get out of my state and see what other parts of the USA have to offer. But one thing that really worries me, and that I wanted to reach out about, is the winters in the north.

I'm moving from Texas, so for the most part, snow or ice is rare, and it usually meant the whole city shut down for a few days if it happened that year. And now I need to coordinate a moving truck up to Michigan, which from what I know, snow is to be expected? Do y'all have any tips for dealing with this?

I'll also be moving into a suburb area, is there anything I need to know about that? I've heard shoveling snow is kinda important, is that true? How often do you need to shovel snow?

Thanks y'all

Frankly, who cares? If you don't want to see or participate in tankie propoganda, then don't. People point out that lemmy.ml is the hub for a lot of communities, so it isn't reasonable to switch to another instance. And then they bring up communities like !Linux@lemmy.ml Guess what, Linux isn't meant to be a hub for political discourse, and for the most part, it isn't. Use lemmy.ml how you want to use it, and if you want to participate in other political leanings, go to a different instance. No one is really stopping you, and that's the whole idea of the fediverse. And there really isn't any value lost, because this isn't a "choose one and only one" situation. You've got all of the fediverse at your fingertips

So this came off a bit abrasive. But the point I want to convey is that if you want to have deep/heated political discourse, either do that on a community (and instance) suitable for it, or use an account specifically for political discussion. I think it helps everyone. The mods can referee communities with more clear boundaries, the lurkers/users don't need to worry about political debates when looking up tech support or whatever, and you (the reader/political dissident) can still enjoy your discussions with less worry about being randomly banned.

Can I just add a different perspective on this?

My dad is really old (like early baby-boomers), and I am basically the in-family tech support when the home computer starts acting strange.

Well, right after google rolled out this update, my dad clicked on what he thought was an online shopping link. It was actually an ad for a toolbar add-on. ~~Queue~~ Cue like 6+ hours trying to uninstall that add-on and the bundled software.

I never had to worry about that in the past with him because I had u-block origin installed. Now I need to find something else that can run quietly in the background. And probably a better antivirus.

I was curious how best to cut down on our usage, if we'd be aggressive, how long we could make our oil last.

From the EPA, seems the like roughly 40% of an oil barrel ends up being used to create gasoline source. The transportation sector accounts to 2/3 of our total oil consumption. In the transportation sector, roughly 54% of energy is used just for passenger cars. source

If everyone in the world stopped driving gasoline cars and switched to a 100% renewable option, we would only cut our oil production by about 36%. That changes the timeline from 50 years to 78 years.

Pretty saddening to think about. Hopefully some technology improvements for oil recycling come around quickly

That's the way it works? Starting out, entry level job? Get entry level resposibilty, and entry level pay. Same for midlevel, and senior positions. But this breaks down once you get to the executives. It seems like the less experience you have, better pay
