@OriginalThinker@lemmy.ml, I'm responding to your DM here.

We don't move posts to the correct community because Lemmy doesn't have that option - and I'd rather you got to choose where your content lands.

As for why we don't reach out and tell people - this is a volunteer job on a big community. We rely on the mod log and allow this kind of meta post to stay up for transparency and discussion. Otherwise, we focus on following the rules laid out so that this community can stay within its intended scope. This is a community for open questions and discussion - not support.

I'm sorry you don't feel welcomed - that's tough. However, communities come with their own rules and mods will make sure they're enforced. I'd recommend checking those rules carefully before posting in the future as that will help the reception of your post.

It's not just the mods but the admins going to lengths to keep their instances clean. The awfulness outlined in that post means I'm not sure I should keep hosting my own instance.

The discussion on communities is better suited to !fediverse@lemmy.ml.

See rule #2 - we specifically are careful around offensive topics because we don't have the bandwidth to moderate them carefully. That can mean allowing a conversation to run to see where it goes if one of us has bandwidth - if it goes well, great. If not, it gets locked or removed, depending on the amount of interaction and the tone of the comments. Actively following each thread and removing comments as they come up isn't possible due to bandwidth and tools, so it's a question of looking at the value to the community and overall tone.

A post that is unnecessarily provocative or won't lead to a good discussion is generally removed early.

Regarding bullying, that's very much on our radar. There isn't a hard and fast rule and needs to be dealt with on a per situation basis.

Feel free to take a look at the mod log (link is in the sidebar) for examples of how we handle tougher conversations.

Isn't that only kbin, while this community is based on a Lemmy instance?

[-] hsl@wayfarershaven.eu 18 points 1 year ago

This is more of a support question, please see the sidebar for communities that can help you out. Removing under rule #3.

This is technically about using Lemmy so breaks rule #3. However, it's a good question and I haven't seen it lately, so putting away the mod hammer.

[-] hsl@wayfarershaven.eu 18 points 1 year ago

"Why" is technically a question but...removing under #1 and also rule #3 - this is a better question for a support community if you're actually looking for help. If you're just here to vent, then I don't have any good suggestions.

Please check the sidebar for suggestions on where to find Lemmy support. Removing this post now.

There is no real question here, removing per rule 1.

We've had multiple threads about this over the past few days. Removing this one under rule #4.

Sticky so that we have one place to discuss.

I'd love to see some ideas or suggestions for a better banner image for this community, something that shows a bit more spirit and interest. This current image is one that I found on Unsplash.

If anyone is interested in creating a new banner image for the community, please submit it in the comments of this post!

How many inks do you have?

[-] hsl@wayfarershaven.eu 20 points 1 year ago

You can troubleshoot this through the process of elimination.

  1. Don't make any calls from home for a day or two. That'll tell you if it's something localized to your home/location or if it's specific to your phone/contract.
  2. Disable all extra technology like Bluetooth. That'll tell you if it's a Bluetooth or other connection. Ideally, turn off all extra connections beyond cellular. You could also try voice/video calls vs. phone data - I doubt this would matter, but it's always the last thing that you check.
  3. Break your house into a few different zones. If they comment on a conversation held it in one part of the home but not another, that'll give you an idea if it's location specific.

Probably not the most helpful tip, but how about taking this opportunity to learn another language?

This makes me pretty sad - Goodreads was awesome back in the day.

I've just pulled the trigger on a dock and I'm thinking it may be time to upgrade my external controller. I have a Logitech F710 which has been pretty decent for PC gaming and has worked well on Linux. I'm seeing the Xbox XS as a top recommendation. Is it worth the upgrade?

Neck pillows? (wayfarershaven.eu)

Do you travel with a neck pillow? Why or why not?

I'm trying to think of places I wouldn't go as a solo traveler and am coming up blank. What do you think?

I'm considering the Moonlander but I have small hands. I have an older Iris which is a good fit but doesn't have hotswap and occasionally needs to be unplugged and replugged to work. I am looking for something that just works, not a new soldering project - especially since my office will cover the cost.

Which would you recommend? And is it the end of the world if I can't reach the full thumb cluster on the Moonlander?

I know it's still early days and we may not have the userbase yet, but I wanted to make sure it exists for those who may want it.

Cozy fantasy is a term to describe lighter fantasy fiction that focuses on warmth, comfort, and a sense of belonging. If you’ve ever wanted to lose yourself in a magical fantasy world but weren’t in the mood for dark themes and stressful, epic quests, cozy fantasy fiction is exactly what you need.

I wouldn't know which work is best qualified to win as I haven't read them all. I do find this helpful for suggestions on what to read next.

I liked Kaiju Preservation Society and can highly recommended it as a relatively light and silly read.

I love my suitcase (Timbuktu Copilot small) but definitely need a good personal carry-on for when I don't need to carry a laptop. What's your go-to bag?
