@RaniaKhalek

8 years after Hillary Clinton lost to Trump, Kamala Harris managed to (probably) do it again by recycling Clinton's failed strategy of courting Republicans and out-hawking Trump amidst a Democratic-sponsored genocide she refused to budge on.

The stupidity is almost unbelievable until you remember imperialism always comes first, even if it means losing.

@realnikohouse

A November 5th headline about how Israel senselessly killed more women and children using weapons paid for and supplied by the Biden/Harris administration.

This is why Kamala lost. Tonight, the country decided there was nothing worse than genocide and ANYONE would be better to vote for than a woman who PROMISED to continue it.

It is the Democrats fault for not listening to the working-class struggles and the protestors that are against funding the proxy wars and genocide.

Check out a foreign lobby group that is ignored by the duopoly; it is called AIPAC. They fund many politicians and have a lot of control over our foreign policy as well.

[-] jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world -3 points 2 days ago

It seems to just help divide the working class and to continue to increase tribalism.

You do you!

[-] jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

True!

I wonder if the numbers will have an impactful change when comparing the people that said they would move out of the U.S. due to 2016/2020/2024.

[-] jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

It is important to escape our self-built echo chambers. Many independent journalists and commentators spoke of an increase in minority support for Trump and Harris not reaching the Biden numbers.

We must focus on building up a grassroots movement that is for the working class and moving away from the duopoly.

Stay hopeful!

@Abandonbiden24

Did we not make it clear that we’d fight to make sure you lost every single swing state? Did we not warn you that you cannot commit genocide and walk away unscathed? Did we not tell you, without a hint of doubt, that a reckoning was on its way and that we’d be the ones to rip the ground out from under you?

Look closely. These are the consequences of your genocidal actions.

State polling showed they were really close in these ten swing states, so no surprise.

Our economy, our proxy wars that we are funding, and shifts in political views for some due to all these conflicts might have something to do with this.

Harris was not that popular in her presidential run in 2020 as well.

The data will be interesting when it is compared to 2016/2020/2024; I wonder if voter turnout increased or decreased!

[-] jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world 40 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

That would require money, which most of the working class does not have.

The people spewing this rhetoric are those higher up the food chain; moving out of the US was also said in 2016 and 2020.

But what does it take to move to Canada? Is it even possible for Americans? And how difficult would it be? In short, it's not an easy journey, but it can be done.

To gain permanent residency and, eventually, citizenship, the process is complicated. You must be 18 years old. Then, you can apply several different ways — via specific provinces, via a special entrepreneur route, with help from a family member or spouse already living in Canada or through Québec, which has special immigration requirements, Business Insider reported.

The more skills you have, including fluency in English and French, the higher you'll "score" on applications, making you all the more likely to gain residency.

Skilled workers are able to apply for residency via a fast track, called the Express Entry system. Under that, skilled workers are transitioned into new roles in the country and given scores based on their talents and job prospects when they apply that then contribute to where they're placed and if they're placed. Those with top scores are given permanent residency on a Canadian work visa.

Once a permanent residence, you're entitled to healthcare coverage and are able to work, study and travel anywhere in the country. But, you can't vote, run for office or hold certain jobs with top security clearances.

Permanent residents could lose their status if they aren't in Canada for at least 730 of the days during the first five years of their tenure, and to continue it after five years, they must meet that requirement and then declare their intent to stay Canadian. The only exception is for Crown servants or their families working on behalf of Canada abroad.

Those requirements must be met plus some to become a citizen. Permanent residents have to be physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days in the first five years of their permanent residency — more specifically before the date their applications are signed. Consistency is key — inconsistency in living and simply being in Canada can be a red flag to immigration officers reviewing citizenship applications.

Income tax filings have to be sent for three years of that five-year period leading up to the date of the application signing, which is to show the Canadian authorities that the individual's job is legit. You must also speak English or French, not necessarily fluently, but you have to be able to prove that you can make small talk in one of those languages, including giving directions and using basic grammar and being able to describe yourself.

A general knowledge of Canada is also required, including history, values and other institutions and symbols of Canada. The test is written but can be delivered orally.

Even then, there are a number of reasons why an application can be denied despite meeting the aforementioned requirements. Any crimes committed within four years of the application submission are likely to disqualify a prospective citizen.

X users flocked to the social media platform, which is owned by Elon Musk, to vent their frustrations and discuss their plans. Many joked about moving to Canada amid the results, like user @desjjong, who wrote, Chat if yall fumble this country’s election im moving to Canada or sum s---."^[[1] https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/can-americans-move-to-canada-if-trump-wins-us-citizens-consider-post-election-move-here-s-what-it-takes/ar-AA1tAjXg]

This piano ballad grand masterpiece became the signature song and the centerpiece of their simultaneous twin double album releases Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II.

Clocking in at almost 9 minutes, “November Rain” features Rose’s desperate vocal and heartfelt piano. A depressing autumn tale of lost love, Slash’s inspired soaring guitar solos and the band’s dramatic dynamics over a crescendo of a swirling string section backed by a powerful choir make the song an instant classic.

The song had been a work-in-progress since 1983. Former GNR co-founder and guitarist Tracii Guns explained:

When we were doing that EP for L.A. Guns, like ‘83? He was playing “November Rain”—and it was called “November Rain”—you know, on piano. Way back then, it was the only thing he knew how to play, but it was his. He’d go, “Someday this song is gonna be really cool.” And I’d go, “It’s cool now.” “But it’s not done”, you know, he used to say. And, like, anytime we’d be at a hotel or anywhere, there’d be a piano; he’d just kinda play that music. And I’d go, “When are you gonna finish that already”, you know? And he’d go, “I don’t know what to do with it.”

The lyrics and video are based on a short story by Del James called “Without You” from a collection called The Language of Fear, which was brought back to market in 2008 after being out of print. The new version of the book contains an intro by Axl Rose, who wrote:

Del James has a personal knowledge of most of the situations he writes about, and has a love of the gutter from having been there.

James has also contributed lyrics to GNR songs The Garden" and “Yesterdays” and has directed several music videos.

“November Rain” hit #3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, #9 in Germany where it charted for 51 weeks, #5 in Australia riding the Top 10 for 22 weeks and #7 in New Zealand ending 1992 as their second best-selling single.^[[1] https://genius.com/Guns-n-roses-november-rain-lyrics]

"You know what they want?

They want obedient workers.

Obedient workers.

People who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork and just dumb enough, to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs, with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime, and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it." -- George Carlin

David Graeber's book on bullshit jobs blew the myth of office productivity wide open several years ago. The elites have been promising us shorter work weeks for more than a century now. We have the technology to make it happen. As we speak, they're bragging about their new AI minions.

Of course, that article even admits that onsite employees aren’t more productive. They just find different ways to “goof off,” like shopping online or scrolling their phones. The real ire seems to stem from envy, that remote workers are capable of meeting their responsibilities while also doing healthy things and taking care of themselves, like taking a walk in the middle of the day or (gasp) even a nap. Ironically, wellness articles have been telling bosses to let their employees take walks or naps in the middle of the day for almost 20 years.

Many news outlets finally came clean last year and reported that a big chunk of companies might simply be using office return mandates as an excuse to lay off employees and “restructure” their workforce.

Anywhere from 12 to 20 percent of office space remains vacant. It’s worse than the 2008 recession. If these landlords can’t find a way to make money off their corporate real estate soon, they’re going to start defaulting on their loans. The landlords will go bankrupt, and banks will wind up with giant office towers they can’t sell. More than $1 trillion will go poof.

According to a piece in the Harvard Business Review, the $1 trillion will come due between now and 2026. That explains why CEOs keep making these edicts, and newspapers keep trying to trash remote work. As the piece explains, “The damage could metastasize into a full-blown financial crisis if scores or even hundreds of small and midsize commercial banks fail simultaneously.”

The Federal Reserve’s misguided war on inflation has made everything even worse over the last couple of years. By raising interest rates, they’ve motivated more companies to ditch their office leases. Now commercial real estate is in a death spiral that could tank the economy (again).

Major cities have spent the last several decades catering to these corporate landlords. Now their entire downtowns rely on workers for commerce. We’re talking about all those restaurants and coffee shops that serve breakfast and lunch to white-collar workers, and all the bars where people used to go and complain about work before they spent an hour commuting home.

Once again, the elite have gotten themselves into big trouble. They want the rest of us to bail them out. If they don't want our tax money, they want us to give up our freedom and autonomy. They want us to sacrifice ourselves on the altar of capitalism to protect their fortunes.

"The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses." - Malcolm X

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." - John F. Kennedy

"I and some colleagues came to the conclusion that as violence in this country was inevitable, it would be wrong and unrealistic for African leaders to continue preaching peace and non-violence at a time when the government met our peaceful demands with force. It was only when all else had failed, when all channels of peaceful protest had been barred to us, that the decision was made to embark on violent forms of political struggle." - Nelson Mandela

Generational labeling...

I see it as a way to divide the working class, same as the "lower class"/"middle class" and "unskilled labor"/"skilled labor".
