The comic is getting at souls being kind of a silly concept that breaks down when you think about it. A lot of people mean "soul" when they say "consciousness", so although the comic says consciousness, I think it's poking fun at the idea of souls. I've never heard a good argument for them that doesn't boil down to "Wouldn't it be nice if it were true?"
Yeah, I'm posting them in the order they've been posted to the site. When we hit the end of the current archive in a few years, maybe it'll be time to randomize it or something (though we'd have to preserve storylines like Funpire somehow)
You could check with @MrSebSin@sh.itjust.works, who created and runs https://bellobear.com/ (and posts them on Lemmy to !bellobearofficial@lemmy.world)
This is kind of the start of the Funpire storyline. We've seen Grier and Vanka before, but this is the start of Grier realizing that she's no fun.
My spring has involved a lot of grilling, which sounds very stereotypically US but sometimes stereotypes are accurate.
It's got the right rhythm
Some background on this comic:
Stories
Sometimes ideas have come out of short stories or ramblings I write just to shift gears once in a while. Cartoons are, after all, little stories themselves, frozen at an interesting point in time. What follows are several stories that either led to cartoons, could have led to cartoons, or were just ideas in and of themselves.
Transcript:
I was standing in the kitchen on day, fixing a sandwich or something, when suddenly I heard a very distinct "sneeze" emanate from the fridge. Naturally curious, I opened the door and scrutinized the various food items. Suddenly the mayonnaise began to scream, "The ketchup did it! The ketchup!"
Of course, I was stunned. This, after all, was an inanimate object. And, truthfully, to this very day, I've never been able to coax the ketchup to say or do anything and have concluded the sneeze was my own imagination.
My read of OP's question was asking about something they could switch the friend group to. If they don't want to switch to anything else, then they're stuck on Snapchat because that's what they're already using.
It's not part of the Fediverse, but Signal is a good for group chats. It's got reactions and gifs and whatnot, and you can also ignore the notifications you don't care about.
What does "turn into a small bag" mean?
It's frustrating reading discussion about AI, because 90%+ of it is just people without any measurable definition of terms like "consciousness" or "intelligence" or "knowledge" talking past each other.
I actually think "consciousness" is easily definable as soon as you realize the question isn't "Is X conscious?", it's "What is X conscious of?", which in turn means "What is included in the world model of X?".
