That's just how software licensing work before subscription, right? You'll get a permanent license key that valid for that version, then if you want to upgrade to the latest version later down the line, you'll buy a license upgrade (usually at discount).

star trek mods successfully moved their communities from reddit back then. afaik the only other community with similar success is the piracy community.

I don't mind weird and different opinions on things. In fact, that's what make the discussion interesting instead of some boring echo chambers. I just wish people wouldn't be so aggressive about it and hurling personal attacks left and right. The old discussion board had thing called netiquete to keep the discussion civil, but here in certain communities it's like the wild west.

Cloudlare has become too big to fail. If the IP addresses belong to a smaller proxy company, no one would even bat an eye.

Ah yes, the good ol' "let's solve this problem with blockchain". I thought we're already past that.

People who have contributed more to the community and earned more Points are able to have a larger say in the direction that the community takes.

When karma-whoring repost accounts have more say than actual community members... What could go wrong?
