Yessir. If you have any additions just let me know.

Yep, and a couple others as well. Some of the remaining are getting repeated "Rule 7" flags on things that clearly don't violate anything, so they're on the chopping block as well.

Thanks! Not my first go on Lemmy, this is just my fosscad persona. Reddit is shitting all over what made it popular and driving folks away in droves.

Might be time for puts? calls? (whichever one bets against the stock, I was never any good at the market) on RDDT.

Ideally, they shouldn't. There is nothing illegal about designing a firearm or firearm accessories. Manufacturing them depends on your location and applicable laws, but they're the same laws that govern store-bought or private transaction purchase of commercially manufactured arms.

Lemmy, being decentralized and community driven, has no culpability for the discussion of lawful and (at least in the US) protected activities.

The term "ghost gun" is a sensationalized media coined term used to excite the easily excitable. The ATF defines DIY firearms as "PMF" or Personally Made Firearms. They are 100% legal in most US jurisdictions as long as you're otherwise not a prohibited person, and they have been a part of the history of the US since before the US was a country.

As with most things, as technology progresses over time, the barrier to entry lowers. For instance, there was a time in the very recent past where the computer/phone/tablet you're using to access this site was far out of reach of the average person. But now everyone has access by default. Same goes for hobby level making of things, be they firearms or anything else. Society evolves in parallel with our abilities to understand and create. Some people use it for good, some people do not. That's a people problem, not a technology problem.

Feel free to hang around and learn. You may find yourself amazed at some of the ingenuity and creative problem solving displayed. The things you learn here can apply to other aspects of life, if this specifically isn't your thing.

With reddit banning fosscad/diy related subs, folks are seeking alternatives. I'll try to keep a list of the more active ones in this thread, and of course we welcome content here as well.

Much appreciated!

Already there, started down this path before Shittinator announced. Still would like this one to get sorted as an alternate in case that goes down.

Indeed. I'm requesting the apparently abandoned community "officially" and they needed a token post. Mods last post was around 3 years ago, and as of yesterday the most recent post at all was 11mos ago. Just trying to keep it from going into limbo. Glad to see it's still getting some visibility.

Hoping to get this community revived as a backup for reddit refugees.

Sole moderator last active ~3 years ago. Would very much like to revive this community.
