And that is exactly why we need more regulation on this area, because it's NOT sustainable right now.

This was why the EU made it mandatory to use USB-C, so we only need few chargers for everything in our home. This alone were tons of e-waste reduced each year.

We need this thinking in other areas too.

Hi all,

I just got a Raspberry Pi 5 and I'm about to do my first setup, but it's a jungle to understand everything as a 'noob'.

My plan is to install the following:

  • Pi-hole
  • Tailscale
  • Traefik

I want to achieve DNS ad blocking and access to all my services on my laptop and phone.

Would these services achieve this? Do they work together? And am I missing something to make it work?

Sorry if this is plain stupid to ask, but I can't seem to find anything where all 3 is used together.

Amazing and terrifying that EU seems to be the only world government to actually stand up against this late stage capitalism dystopia.

These rules actually makes sense. They actually protect both consumers and other companies around the whole world. And most importantly; they tackle a real world problem head on.

This would actually be a big step for many Android users wanting to try out another OS.

I know for myself that sideloading apps is a must for me on my phone, and if an iPhone could do that, it's at least one step closer for consideration.

This is amazing news for countries with free healthcare! Even though the vaccine is expensive, it's nowhere as expensive as the care a cancer patient needs today.

Plus you can send a healthy individual back to their families and into society again.

Samsung has decreased its output by 50% since September, though the market has already seen price bumps due to inventory being cleared out.

So they artificially create a shortage to hike up the prices. Nice.

EDIT: Thank you so much everyone! There's so much help for me here, and I'll recommend anyone with similar question as me to read the comments

Basically title.

I have the DVDs and I have the hardware to burn them to my PC.

But the file size is too much. What software would be ideal to get the best quality with the lowest file size?

I'm going for file sizes per movie at around 2-3gb max.

For me it's the Batteries Regulations.

It includes things like:

  • Replaceable batteries that is "easy for consumers to remove/replace" in devices like smartphones, tablets and cameras by 2027.

  • Recycling "of critical raw materials such as cobalt, lithium and nickel" in batteries will be prioritised and developed further by 2025.

Let me hear yours. It can be anything, and also regulations from the past which came into effect in 2023.

Spotify is saying it's "a real blow to innovation".

Honestly wtf they on about. 1-2% tax on their massive multi million platform, and the tax goes directly to support music in the country.

Fuck Spotify.

[-] themurphy@lemmy.world 311 points 11 months ago

Honestly, Spotify is only half bad compared to the real scumbags of this industry, and that's the "rights holders".

It's not the artists who created the music I'm talking about. It's the record companies taking the largest piece for themselves.

They are the ones earning on other people's talent and success.

First of all, L4s (sorry misspelled in titel) is not a real user, so no harm done here.

It's an automatic bot xposting from reddit, making this community just as bad as r/technology, which kind frankly only revolves around politics and social media platforms.

I've had the user blocked 2 weeks now, and this community is muuuuch more enjoyable and is actually about technology now.

Just wanted to share a positive experience.

It has never been a technology problem.

If society was build correct in a democracy, advances in all fields would always be for benefitting the people and the majority.

This has been a problem ever since the industrial revolution and what caused the great depression.

If technology advances to a stage where we only need 75% of the current work force, the answer is not to fire 25%. It is for everyone to benefit and work 25% less or get 25% more pay. (or 12,5% work less and 12,5% more pay. Our choice)

That is a working democracy.

Alot of us who have a Raspberry Pi 3 or 4 might upgrade to the Raspberry Pi 5.

Doing so would leave us with 2 Pi's. What are some great use cases for the older Pi, that would no longer be the main machine?

EDIT: Thanks so much guys! This was really helpful, and I didn't imagine so many would help out!

Hey guys,

I've used PiHole for over a year now, and I really like it. I use it with WireGuard, so I always have my DNS blocker with me.

But I've wondered if I even have some good lists? I used some standard lists from a reddit thread when I set up my PiHole, and I've never looked at it since.

So what blocklists do you use? Something you can recommend?

Also, if you use Blocky or AdGuard, do you find it better than PiHole?

TIL occupied indicators are not standard in the rest of the world.

Can't we please just edit the headline to include some context instead of copy/pasting the click baity title?

Write which database was leaked, at the very least. I'm not on Lemmy for click bait.

[-] themurphy@lemmy.world 132 points 1 year ago

What the fuck is wrong with you guys. This is absolutely dystopian shit right there.

This is not "nice" or "neat"?!

It's straight up awful. It's war.
