  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (e.g. politics or societal debates).
  4. Stay calm: Don’t post angry or to vent or complain. We are a place where everyone can forget about their everyday or not so everyday worries for a moment. Venting, complaining, or posting from a place of anger or resentment doesn't fit the atmosphere we try to foster at all. Feel free to post those on !goodoffmychest@lemmy.world

For many years, we've been a single vehicle family much to the confusion of family and friends. They regularly ask, "How can you survive with one car?!" I get it, but one has to do what they must and work within their means.

Where we live, there aren't viable public transportation options. And we can't afford debt (as oxymoronic as that may sound). Yes, it means lots of planning and occasionally strandings. 😬 It's hit a point where we can't make do now. sighs

I've saved and saved. I've worked 100 work weeks. A few months ago, we started searching for something dependable to buy with not so much cash. That's been no easy feat. Lots of people have tried to rip us off by hiding serious vehicle problems. It became such a significant source of stress and partnership conflict.

Now we can celebrate though! It's finally happened! πŸŽ‰πŸŽˆπŸŽŠ We have a second car! Simple, good on gas, and no major problems! A huge time drain and source of anxiety is finally able to be put behind us.

I'm so incredibly grateful. We are privileged to be in our situation and now I can finally free the mental space and energy to start focusing on all the other important things in life that I've had to table. Phew!

What about you?!

Are you currently overwhelmed with something huge? Have you recently overcome a draining task? Share with us your celebrations and let us root for you if you're still in the midst of it all.

Alright. Now it's back to triage. What's the next next major thing. πŸ˜…

I'm a fiend for museums. Every time I travel for work (which is thankfully alone most of the time), I find museums to go to. When I travel for leisure, I pretty much always find some museum to go to in between whatever else I'm doing, too.

I am particularly fond of contemporary art, and technology museums, closely followed by natural history museums.

My favorite museum of all time is Mass MoCa in North Adams, MA, USA. I go at least twice a year, even though it's a ~4 hour drive. I used to be a member at $250 a year, which also gave me ROAM reciprocal admission to tons of other museums, but money is tight these days and I had to give that up. There was a time when I was doing enough work travel that the money I saved via all the free admission to ROAM museums I got on the road was actually a net savings over the $250 membership!

Has anyone else been to Mass MoCa? We may have crossed paths!

What is your favorite museum? How often do you go? Are you a member?

I've been thinking about museums a bunch since I started planning my Art Basel Miami trip later this year... I'm trying to figure out how to bundle the Kennedy Space Center and Art Basel into one weeklong trip with minimal expense lol.

Like idk what's so funny about a guy rushing to the hospital and a woman having a miscarriage, I've seen other random images referring to the original "loss" meme and I don't know what's so funny.

Like... even beans is a better meme than whatever "loss" is supposed to mean.

hey everyone. i'll cut to the chase:

be careful of users like https://lemmy.world/u/Sadbunny3. we met 18 days ago and privately messaged each other a few days before exchanging contact information. i thought her speaking style was "odd" but not off. conversations flowed logically, past texts were referenced and thread replied to.. everything seemed rather genuine. this person appealed to me as somebody wanting a friend. we shared interests and then our personal lives. over the next few days i was told that this person wanted to help me out of my financial predicament that i confessed i was in.

i pushed back. i brought up how i felt uncomfortable, how i was disbelieving in their kindness, and they reassured me every step of the way that there are good people out there and sometimes good things do happen. they agreed with me that there are tons of bad actors out there, but they wanted to convey their seriousness to me, and that they weren't pulling my leg.

it took me another day or so to be willing to have them walk the walk. they asked how much my expenses were and started adding up totals. again, i called attention to the fact this was very, very strange. i didn't understand why somebody who knew so little of me valued me so much. in a way, i wanted to believe this was possible. i wanted to believe that maybe, just maybe, a new friend was that generous.

lol

lmao

guys

no

as they were setting things up today they told me they were going to ask their accountant to wire me money (this was supposedly a therapist which explained their gaps in responses). i said ok thinking still that this was not going to happen. then, they informed me they had to send a check and blah blahFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK...noooo i'm so dumb godddddd!!!!! i said nahhh, not comfortable giving out my address. then they hit me with a "ohhh it'll be an email that is quick, easy, and convenient!" y'know, the way people talk to each other?

18 days. they pursued me for two weeks. i called them out and dialed their number until they answered. silence on the other end; not a single sound other than breathing. i blocked them and came to Lemmy to see if they were trying to message me or others. nope! and guess what? they stopped making public posts 18 days ago. they got me. they didn't need the account anymore.

i was floored. i have avoided many, many scams online. i ultimately prevented my first but it got uncomfortably far. i trusted someone i shouldn't have when there were red flags early. however, i didn't know those were red flags now in 2025. somebody not having the most fluid way of texting can be explained, but now i have to consider that a tell if things don't add up. idk just make sure you are being more skeptical nowadays, please. don't get scammed like i almost did.

Hey @cm0002@piefed.world if that works. I never got a reply and what you pasted before is unreadable by me even if I go to like 200% as the image does not get large, just the text, on the web so I have no idea what is there. I could only move forward with no communication from whatever your doing or from the mod who removed the devils panties comic because they did not like that it was about her going to a protest which is why I moved to posting to another community.

It doesn't take that much work, and it helps keep the place clean.
