Pedalboard Pics! (lemmy.sdf.org)

How about a thread to share pedalboard pics?

I use the same board to route guitar and bass, which is why there are three preamp/DI pedals on here. Benson preamp is for guitar, SansAmp Bass Driver DI is for most bass, and I sometimes use the SansAmp YYZ with my MIJ Ged Jazz when I want to create a just-about-perfect Moving Pictures tone.

I miss /r/bass but... (lemmy.sdf.org)

I miss /r/bass a bit, but I realized when I was going through all of the things I posted there, like 90% was patiently answering the same damned questions over and over again for newbies who simply wouldn't read the FAQ or even casually search for answers to their question:

  1. Check the 9V.

  2. The Rumble 40 is the minimum viable amp for that line; the feature set is such that it's a dramatic improvement over the 25. Yes, it gets loud enough to play casually with acoustic instruments and even a drummer with dynamic control, but you will want something bigger for audiences/outdoor/more players. If you can't afford the 40, buy a headphone amp for now (which will still be useful later) and save your money.

  3. That IS a weird noise. Try moving your phone away from the amp/cable/pickups.

  4. You are already good enough to play with others and you will get better faster the sooner you do so.

  5. Seriously, check the 9V.

If you're looking for some cool bass lines to play by The Smiths, start with The Queen Is Dead.

Barbarism Begins at Home (on Meat Is Murder) is a good exercise to build endurance if you don't use a pick (Rourke did though).

Fender Bass VI (lemmy.sdf.org)

It is a different kind of bass, but not really used by guitarists or bass players. They're unique on their own and work well with others.
