Many former festival goers were not even aware that Ommegang quietly brought back BCTC last year. It was quite scaled down from years past and half the vendor spots were empty in 2024.

We bought tickets for this year and they just cancelled it with less than 2 weeks to go citing "unforeseen circumstances" which is a typical level of transparency for those unfamiliar with Ommegang's event management quality.

I don't have much invested in it other than the ticket price (which is refunded) but I feel bad for those who made non-refundable hotel, Airbnb reservations etc. But hey, the offered a free beer in their Facebook cancellation message!

Like if I'm on a road trip in Anywheresville, USA and all they have is a Kroger, Walmart and basic Liquor Store, what is the best beer they are likely to have (so no local/regional brews)?

I realize this is a strange request, sacrilegious even to some but if y'all could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.

Basically I was at Total Wine picking different singles to try out and got a bottle of Bell's Two Hearted. I'm not usually an IPA guy, but this was single handedly one of the best beers I've tasted. Thought the hops were really tasty, not super bitter, with a really nice bready (malty?) after taste that I like in beer.

I picked up a whole case this time around but found the experience very different, notably much more bitter and lacking that bready backend. After some research I think the first time, I got a bottle that's been sitting around longer. I really want to try some beers that might give me the same thing, anything better than just buying cases and leaving them for a couple months...

Hope it’s okay to share here, I just released a demo for my video game all about beer and brewing!

Is there anywhere near Seattle that does traditional kolsch service? I’m talking traditional slender glasses (stange), refills nonstop, bringing them out on the traditional trays (kranz) until I put a coaster on top? Any insight? I loved this in Germany and really want to bring friends to experience it, but I don’t want to have to take them to Germany to do it.

Occasionally I am a Guinness drinker. My wife left her protein shakes next to my Guinness in the refrigerator. After perhaps too many... I thought of mixing them. When I was much younger, I remember trying to mix chocolate syrup into the Guinness with not the greatest effect. However, these are outstanding! I wish I could add a picture but it is Nurri, vanilla with 30 g of protein, one 16 oz Guinness drought and the 11 oz Nurri, easily pour into a 1 liter mason jar, and they don't separate over time. They stay combined and delicious! 30 g protein Guinness milkshake!

I posted this here 4 yrs ago:

Why are these tropical, hazy IPAs taking over? I can rarely find a crisp, clear west coast IPA.

Update: My usual/daily has been Creature Comforts Tropicalia IPA for most of the past 4 yrs.

I've been trying a lot of German beers lately, I love the flavor, and it's my favorites of all the beers I tried.

I noticed some brands have Dunkel and hell written on them . I guess it's the equivalent of lager and dark?

I tried: paulner (just ok, but disappointed)

weihenstephaner(excellent)

hofbrau(extremely good, my favorite)

Spaten (excellent)

franziskaner (amazing)

lowenbrau (great beer)

what makes German beers so good? they just taste like "normal" beers nothing fancy or crazy in taste but yet so good.

what other German beers would you recommend? can you recommend a top 5 or 10 beers that I should consider?

thanks

I'm having a hard time hunting this down around Central Ohio. Is anyone aware of a shop that's carrying singles or 6 packs in Ohio? Some places carry the Stone IPA but not Arrogant Bastard Ale.

Update- after someone mentioned searching on their website, I realized I used the feature completely wrong (clicked on the Kroger logo since they're all around me instead of the search bar) and was able to find the 19oz single cans at Lucky's Market South of OSU's campus. Two cans in hand for the weekend!

One of my favorite things about beer is the strange competition brands have, especially the big light beers. I remember stuff like the vortex bottle, frost brew liner, vented cans, etc. Is there a list out there of some of the weird, possibly pointless, beer innovations I can read? Or does anyone have more to share?

I love a proper British ale. As I sit in a local pub in the sun drinking a gorgeously amber pint from a nearby brewery, I wonder. I look at the website of the company that made this beautiful drink, and see that they make 10 different styles, each different in profile and ABV, sometimes by a single decimal.

How do brewers, especially local ones, maintain such consistency? Is it just using the exact same quantity of different ingredients each time, or meticulous attention to detail, or something else? For a process so sensitive to temperature, impurities, slight bumps, it seems unbelievable how the beers come out exactly the same, every time.

Bonus questions; how do macro-lager brewers do it too; is there a different method? And whisky makers, how do they make every bottle exactly right?

Hey, so I've never used Reddit before but wanted to throw this out there. I wrote a book about my experiences visiting nearly 1,400 breweries across all 50 states. It was a passion project of mine, and I have loved talking with other brewery lovers online and in-person at different events I've done.

Feel free to drop a question, or check out the link if you're interested. Cheers!

Excluding macros because that's an easy answer.

What's a brewery (at least somewhat distributed/known so people can resonate with it) that just consistently whelms you? It's not bad, it's not great, it's just kind of boring.

Mine is Rogue. Most of their beer is just.. fine. It often sounds better than it tastes. Though I'll say that the Berry Blonde was one of the worst beers I've ever had.

I'm German and I would like to know how popular and widespread is it in the place where you're living. You can get it in a lot of places/liquor stores? Or do people prefer local beers or these "craft beers", IPA's, Pale Ale's

I am not 21 anymore. At 53 I welcome less bloating, and I get solid, lasting, head formation.

Wondering if anyone can recommend any of the Aldi beers? For the price they look great but I'll admit i tried the shuteye peak pale ale which was an immediate drain pour. It tasted basically like if someone for their first homebrew ever homebrewed a Sierra Nevada pale.

I know it’s only August and still summer but I saw Oktoberfest on the shelf already. So what the heck. Oh my gosh this beer is super good. Nice malt character and not overly yeasty as sometimes they can be. Only downside is little lacing but it taste old school good. It’s definitely got a lager taste to it caramel malts and ever so slight spice, super subtle. This will surely be a winner. I can see why they released it early.

It’s a collaboration with Stortebeker, who is now on my radar.

From my experience, Bell’s Two Hearted is one of those beers that’s amazing on tap but not as good bottled or canned. I’ve tried it both ways, and the difference is noticeable every time. Anyone else run into this with certain beers?

I've got some solo time (kids are with their dad) and I’m in the mood to try something new. Not chasing trends just looking for solid, reliable beers you always go back to.

Really love great Lambic beer, especially classic stuff with minimal adulterations (i.e. maybe just a bit of fruit added, nothing super wonky). Does anyone have any recommendations for great US produced examples?

I'm familiar with the more famous Belgian examples like Cantillon or Fonteinen.
