Be respectful, and do not harshly judge other's preferences or ideologies for streaming. You can still disagree, but be civil about it.
No hate speech, bigotry, etc
Self-promotions should be contained within periodic plugin posts for all. It's not against the rules to link to your socials if it feels pertinent to the conversation or to provide examples.
No direct links to NSFW content, but it is allowed to talk about the accounts in general. Yes, this means talking about sex worker streams is acceptable.
Only post drama if related to streaming as a whole. **
Memes are allowed.

** Two streamers getting into a personal beef with each other is not related to the platform of streaming as a whole. A ban or terrible action of a streamer might be related, if for example, it set a possibly bad precedent for that platform as a whole, or would cause worrying moderation attitudes.

I decided to start this community, as you can guess, because of the twitch drama right now. I have a small circle that is talking about it, but I realize the depths of these discussions would be well suited for things like lemmy. I don't really know if there's a huge amount of people here who stream (or like watching streams), but I thought I'd make this in case there was.

I aim for this to be both a fun place and a good resource for information related to streaming. It seems like there might be more tech shakeups happening, it could effect livestreaming, and it would be nice to have a place to go when news like this hits.

The feedback/help I'm looking for is:

complete collection of open source softwares and platforms/sites. I'm sure there's some unknowns.
should we make guides for starting streaming on different platforms and link them in the sidebar?
agree on how and when self promotion can happen. I dislike when it's so strict you can't even allude to yourself or show a VOD, but if this became a dumping ground of self promo posts it would be awful.
any neat suggestions?
are you going to have any issue with us discussing camgirls?

After discovering that those Tubers who report on Johnny Somali weren't giving the complete story by leaving things out or simply not telling them, I decided to watch a few of his streams when I discovered that we are on the same platform. I watched an earlier live stream that he did, then a little of the latest stream that I saw a few minutes of, and decided that I would watch the VOD when I got a chance. I heard that he was arrested, and saw a little on "15 minutes of shame". Since I had some time, I figured that I would jump to stuff leading up to the arrest. I then discovered that Parti suspended his account. WOW!!!

Yesterday, we released new Branded Content Guidelines that impacted your ability to work with sponsors to increase your income from streaming. These guidelines are bad for you and bad for Twitch, and we are removing them immediately.

Sponsorships are critical to streamers’ growth and ability to earn income. We will not prevent your ability to enter into direct relationships with sponsors – you will continue to own and control your sponsorship business.

We want to work with our community to create the best experience on Twitch, and to do that we need to be clear about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. We appreciate your feedback and help in making this change.

People are pointing out that the support page has changed, but the ToS has not been updated yet. However, I assume it would have to pass through legal wording first.
