For those of you who don't know, the Blahaj Zone admin team runs a matrix space for gender diverse folk. Similar to lemmy, it's designed with a few "official" channels, but is otherwise a community curated space, with channels run by our members. You don't have to be a blahaj zone user to join.

If you're already a matrix user, you can head straight to our application room https://matrix.to/#/#gv-apply:chat.blahaj.zone, or by searching for #gv-apply:chat.blahaj.zone from within your matrix client.

If you're new to matrix, you can find some more details and an instruction video on how to get up and running here https://chat.blahaj.zone/c/genderverse/

Lemmy's 0.19.6 introduces some bug fixes but it also introduced a nasty bug which breaks image rendering in many posts See here and since this instance hosts a lot of image based content it would probably be a good idea for us to hold off on upgrading until this is fixed. I do not know yet if this bug will apply retroactively, as in, if all posts made or affected by this will be fixed once a fix rolls out or if they'll be screwed up forever or until editing or re-posting.

I encourage people in instances which have not updated yet to cross-post this to their instance's meta community or ping their instance admins to let them know.

Hii <3 ~

I have not worked with the whole ActivityPub thing yet, so I'd really like to know how the whole thing kinda works.

As far as i can tell, it allows you to use different parts of the fediverse by using just one account.

Does it also allow to create posts on other platforms, or just comments?

I have tried to log in with my smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone account, and it redirected me correctly to the blahaj lemmy site.

Then I entered my lemmy credentials and logged in. I got logged in to my lemmy correctly, but I also got an error just saying "Could not be accessed" in German.

And now I am still not logged in in PeerTube.

Sooo does blahaj zone support the ActivityPub, or is this incorrectly "kinda working" but not really?

Sorry for asking if this was explained somewhere else I searched as best I could and didn’t find anything.

update, got it to work by sending a different link and then editing the post: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/18184598

This post:

https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/18177512

with this url:

https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2024-11-01/what-is-the-electoral-college-and-how-does-the-vote-work

Doesn't seem to federate. I've posted, waited, deleted and reposted multiple times. I've checked lemmy.world and beehaw and it never showed up. The original got one upvote so someone on Blahaj could see it. I'm curious if anyone has run into this problem before and how it was fixed.

Other comments and posts I've been doing have been federating, but specifically not this one. They usually take less than a minute maybe a couple more to federate. Since it wouldn't show on two different instances, after waiting, I would assume it has something to do with our instance, but it could just be a me problem.

I would appreciate it if someone else could try. Thank you.

I saw https://sh.itjust.works/post/27423240 that states that somehow a mod here is blocking certain posts on that community for this instance somehow. Idk how federation modding works.

Seems bad to selectively cut posts. That seems a doorway to building a bubble for communities or even curtailing discussion about topics, even in other instances. Since we’re federated it should be all or nothing; either defederate if the entire site is unmodded/has goblin users/hosts views against our guidelines or block the just community if it’s against our guidelines if the rest of the place is aight.

That specific community seems to be about “NATO warmongering in a cheeky way” if I had to summarize it in a few words. I can see it is untenable for some but I can’t see why we need to be shielded from selections of that, individual users can just block it if the community’s (hopefully somewhat insincere) thirst for blood is too much.

In short, I oppose our admins moderating other instances’ communities. If they’re against our guidelines block the community or defederate; if they good under our guidelines then just leave it even if it’s “just a hair under crab”, to use a metaphor

I assumed we’d always been defederated from lemmygrad but I’ve started to see some of their communities in my searches. Are we federated with them?

any plans for updates?

For some reason I can only see femcel meme posts from four months ago. Recently I made comments on a post, but they seem to be removed? Or maybe blocked in some way.

why would this be?

The image shows how when sorting by new, it shows posts from four months ago.

Guidance for bot accounts (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

I made c/dropout a bit ago and I'm making a script to post new videos automatically. Are there guidelines for bot accounts on here anywhere?

Yesterday I created a community here for my indie game studio and made a single post to describe the new game we're working on, only to find out today that it was banned for "spam" (according to the modlog).

I'll respect the mods' decision of course but I admit I'm mostly confused; did I miss something in the ToS and this kind of community is not allowed here? (or did I read the wrong ToS? The one I found here didn't mention anything about this.)

We are trying to create posts in our new community !kink@lemmy.blahaj.zone and for some reason they aren't appearing or if they are we can't see them from this account.

Is this a blahaj problem (possibly due to the upgrades) or are new communities not allowed to have posts in them until they've been vetted or some such or is it some other problem we don't yet understand?

Edit: Figured it out, we had "Show NSFW content" off in our settings even though those posts are not marked NSFW themselves it must inherent the 'NSFW'ness from the community, strange but makes sense.

Images are working again! (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Kaity has been working away for hours, and had to recompile ImageMagick from scratch to get things work, but now, they're working!

As a bonus, you should be able to upload a wider variety of image formats now.

And as an extra bonus, here is a photo of a random Australian Water Dragon we encountered last weekend!

I always wondered what that icon was for until I just hovered over it and it's apparently somethingwith lemmy.world. Can we have something like that too?

Also, what causes this icon to appear? On the middle post neither the poster nor the community is on lemmy.world. Do they just put the symbol everywhere they feel like?

EDIT:

Turns out, that icon is not from lemmy.world specifically, but for the general Fediverse. It highlights posts which are not from your instance (so not from blahaj zone).

Whilst this is not a local only post/community, it is primarily intended for blahaj lemmy members. Top level replies from non blahaj accounts will be removed.

=======

I want to take the moment to clarify the Blahaj Lemmy position on things, given recent events and the fallout that has followed. This will give people the chance to decide for themselves if blahaj zone lemmy is the right space for them, or if it doesn't meet their needs.

First and foremost, blahaj zone lemmy exists to give a space for queer folk to exist, with their needs explicitly protected as the highest priority, and with a particular focus on the needs of gender diverse folk. Most lemmy instances are not run by trans folk, and whilst many are still inclusive, they don't always prioritise our needs. Others barely consider trans folk, and react only to the most blatant of bigotry.

We are not a political instance, however political communities have a space here, as does any community that is actively protective of the needs of queer and gender diverse folk. Given the impact of politics on gender diverse folk, that means lots of dialogue and strong opinions exist, and as long as those opinions are honestly held, and not bigoted or exclusive, people are welcome to have and express those opinions here.

For what it's worth, I am a member of the Greens Party in Australia. I have no time for the middle ground politics of the Australian Labor party, let alone the right wing beliefs of the Australian Liberal party. Yet a community of queer Labor Party aligned folk would fit on blahaj lemmy, because the parties ideologies, are not explicitly anti queer. A community aligned with the Australian Liberal party likely would not have a place here, unless the goal of the community was to work at actively challenging the anti queer policies of the party.

That being said, political communities (or any other communities) that exist solely to target and take aim at other queer folk have no place here either. The goal of blahaj lemmy is queer inclusion, and a community whose sole goal is division, will be removed.

The downside to this is that as we assume good faith in members and we don't gatekeep or deny access to people because of their pronouns or gender identity, (even when those identities are challenging to many) it is possible for bad faith actors to take advantage of our inclusive policies. Unfortunately, that's just something we are going to have to navigate as it occurs, because I won't let bad faith folk push this instance to defaulting to exclusion or gatekeeping the validity of someone's identity. I will respect a trolls pronouns even as I ban them, because to not do so, normalises the idea that pronouns are something that are earned by good behaviour, or that other people have a say in the validity of another person's identity and pronouns.

So that's where we stand. Hopefully this will help people decide for themselves whether or not this is the right instance for them.

I keep getting an odd error message.

Hi blahaj folks,

I've noticed that new posts containing YouTube links no longer import the video thumbnail or appropriate text from the destination link.

The problem seems to be occurring and ongoing on some instances (blahaj, beehaw, lemmy.ml), while other instances seem to be working just fine (lemmy.sdf.org, ukfli.uk).

I found this post in the Lemmy Support community that mentions the problem, including references to the working and non-working instances. One comment suggests that it may be a problem with a German cloud provider called Hetzner (which may explain why the preview text of each YouTube link appears to be in German).

Its gives this error:

{"data":{"msg":"Required command ffprobe not found, make sure it exists in pict-rs' $PATH","files":null},"state":"success"}

It appears every time I upload an image

Since people are concerned about having a space where they don't have to constantly justify their political leaning I'm creating a community specifically for anarchist & adjacent folks.

It will have a strict no electioneering rule.

Seeing the liberty hub head mod get chased out because of an honest mistake is pretty fucking disheartening. Liberty hub was one of the only places that was free of the reddit brainworms that infest almost every lemmy instance because of liberty hub's aggressive modding.

All of the people celebrating him being chased out have been banned from liberty hub for very valid reasons, whether they were very argumentative or genocide apologists. Seriously. Look up the modlog of the people actually celebrating it.

I could put up with 196's bullshit by just blocking them and hoping none of their frequent posters wandered into spaces i took part in but the fact that non-voters is still allowed to run when it's very clearly just meant to be a place to post content that's incendiary towards people who hold political beliefs that don't line up with mindgoblin's as a reaction to mindgoblin being banned from liberty hub for being incredibly argumentative is honestly pretty gross.

I'm just gonna pass mod of the comms i manage to someone i can sorta hope to handle it.

I'm too fucking old and not terminally online enough to put up with this, i'm clearly not the target demographic. Good fucking luck

Two hours ago I made a post to !libertyhub@lemmy.blahaj.zone about US politics. I had previously had a good relationship with the head moderator of this community. They've encouraged My political posts, and he's removed comments by people that misgendered Me, and reminded people of My pronouns, like in this thread two days ago:

https://imgur.com/RuNKgM1.png

https://imgur.com/GLT7HR0.png

However, an hour ago in this new thread, the same moderator who was telling people to respect My capitalised pronouns uses lowercase pronouns to address Me:

https://imgur.com/fmGtHvf.png

And he has left up earlier comments which also seemed to misgender Me, and which I specifically pointed out:

https://imgur.com/KZnosuC.png

Even as some users in the thread gender Me correctly:

https://imgur.com/EBuGfom.png

I'm making this thread in the main community because since the mod has banned Me, I can no longer report the comment or leave a reply correcting the pronoun. I would like to gain the attention of @ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone

Misgendering trans people and banning Them at the same time so They can't do anything about it is not the kind of thing I expect to see on Blahaj. This mod is clearly 100% aware of My pronouns, and made a choice here. I suppose they could be using the general "you", but it just doesn't look like that, what with banning Me, telling Me My post isn't welcome, and telling Me to go to a different community. I used to have a good rapport with this mod, they said several times that they valued My posts. I posted something he disagrees with, and now all of a sudden respecting trans people's pronouns isn't a priority anymore. He's misgendering Me and they're leaving up comments that also misgender Me. It feels targeted.

EDIT: I cannot seem to embed images. Every time I hit edit and fix the image links and press save, they change to some kind of aussie.zone image proxy link. For now I have left them as links without embedding them.
