Recently the site has become full of transphobic and conspiracy garbage, as well as a campaign for Ron DeSantis.

Their admin doesn't seem to give two shits about any of this he's just letting it happen without any intervention. Defederating them would benefit this community greatly.

Is anybody interested in making something on this canvas thing?

Never participated in r/places, figured I might give it a go

Edit - This is a post to the meta group of Blåhaj Lemmy. It is not intended for the entire lemmyverse. If you are not on Blåhaj Lemmy and plan on dropping in to offer your opinion on how we are doing things in a way you don't agree with, your post will be removed.

A user on our instance reported a post on lemmynsfw as CSAM. Upon seeing the post, I looked at the community it was part of, and immediately purged all traces of that community from our instance.

I approached the admins of lemmynsfw and they assured me that the models with content in the community were all verified as being over 18. The fact that the community is explicitly focused on making the models appear as if they're not 18 was fine with them. The fact that both myself and one a member of this instance assumed it was CSAM, was fine with them. I was in fact told that I was body shaming.

I'm sorry for the lack of warning, but a community skirting the line trying to look like CSAM isn't a line I'm willing to walk. I have defederated lemmynsfw and won't be reinstating it whilst that community is active.

We've had several people reach out to us who have accidentally locked themselves out of their account whilst trying to setup 2 factor authentication.

Whilst it is possible for us to disable 2fa for an account directly from the database, for privacy and security reasons, we won't do this at the request of an external/second account.

However, all is not lost! Enabling 2fa will not log you out of existing sessions, so if you make sure you are logged in to a second browser before enabling 2fa, you will be able to disable it again if you run in to any issues.

Blåhaj Lemmy hacked (lemmy.blahaj.zone)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by supakaity@lemmy.blahaj.zone to c/main@lemmy.blahaj.zone

Hi everyone.

Lemmy had an XSS vulnerability and we were one of the instances attacked through this vulnerability. We had our homepage replaced by a youtube video.

The lemmy devs were quick to create a PR for this issue and we have patched our instance to fix it,

Also while I do not believe any login tokens were compromised, we have taken the additional measure of rotating our secret key, so everyone will have to login to the site again as your existing credentials will no longer be valid.

If login fails to work properly, you may have to clear your cookies for the site... it seems to get confused about whether you're logged in or not.

Sorry that this happened, if you have any questions please contact @ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone or myself.

I personally am quite against it. I joined Lemmy to stay away from the toxicity on Meta's platforms. I don't want any corporate bodies on the fediverse either and possibly doing to the fediverse what Google did to XMPP

Tomorrow, reddit will be shutting off 3rd party app access. If the twitter migration is anything to go by, that means that the wave of new users coming in the next few weeks will be much bigger than the wave we saw earlier this month.

Our lead techy admin @supakaity@lemmy.blahaj.zone is also recovering from broken bones and surgery, so she will be slower to respond to issues :)

All of that being said, we're as prepared as we can be. We're currently running our instance on hardware with excess capacity to spare, but who knows if it will be enough.

So, good luck to all of us, and see you on the other side :)

My wonderful co-admin @supakaity@lemmy.blahaj.zone has made a modification to the downvote system. It's not currently enabled, but if we were to turn it on, downvotes would be available for use, but they would weigh 5 times less than an upvote.

Which is to say, it would take 5 downvotes to counter an upvote. This would let downvotes have an impact on what appears in the hot topics sort, but hopefully mitigate some of the more negative impacts of downvoting.

Are there any strong objections from Blahaj Lemmy users to enabling downvotes with this modification?

Please make sure you have "undetermined" selected in your list of spoken languages in your lemmy settings in addition to any other languages you speak.

Most lemmy content does not come through with a language tag, and you need to have undermined selected as an option to see that content.

Lemmy software updated (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Hey all!

The lemmy software running on Blåhaj Lemmy has been updated to the latest version v0.17.1, which should result in a few bugs disappearing, however I believe there's still a few known bugs remaining.

Let me know if you notice any problems!
