The general sidebar and the c/piracy sidebars are empty of guidance. If piracy links were clearly allowed, more people would post them. If piracy links aren't allowed, we keep ourselves safe from C&Ds, legal action, etc.

Right now, we have the worst of both worlds: we are vulnerable to legal action AND there is no clear mandate what forms of piracy are allowed so some people don't feel comfortable doing so, so posts trickle.

These I gather are okay because the sidebar links to r/piracy megathread backups:

  • Links to a directory of sites that host pirated content
  • Links to sites with direct downloads

Are these okay?

  • Links to specific releases via bittorrent
  • Links to specific releases via sites with direct downloads
  • News of specific releases but not linking

Some new users don't even know whether advocacy of piracy is okay. The only thing I've sort of gathered is that in practice, anything goes short of actually hosting copyrighted material on Lemmy servers. And that magnet links are apparently okay according to Dessalines' pinned post (but that should go in the sidebar if true).

" I run Anna’s Archive, the world’s largest open-source non-profit search engine for shadow libraries, like Sci-Hub, Library Genesis, and Z-Library. Our goal is to make knowledge and culture readily accessible, and ultimately to build a community of people who together archive and preserve all the books in the world ... In this article I’ll show how we run this website, and the unique challenges that come with operating a website with questionable legal status, since there is no “AWS for shadow charities”."

I love Jellyseerr - it's a great way to expose the request functionality for my users - but it only does movies and series. Is there anything similar that works with music?

The other community (!piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com) is mostly the old Reddit one. It's more active than this one.

Music Solutions (lemmy.one)

I'm currently trying to divorce myself from paid streaming services so I'm looking for ideas to pursue. Those of you with huge music collections, what are your solutions for listening at home and on the go? Self-hosted streaming? Modern mp3 player with huge amounts of storage? Modified legacy MP3 player? What are the upsides and downsides? I'm really just looking for what options are out there and if there's any kind of general consensus on what's best.

To be clear, I have no problem buying ebooks and do so quite often. But where I live its often hard to find ebooks in my preferred language without resorting to Am*zon, especially when it comes to the more obscure titles.

Now that Zlibrary is gone, where do people go for liberated ebooks?

I'm sorry if this isn't allowed.

I've been searching for several weeks for all 3 seasons of the Canadian TV show Departures. It's a travel show.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1320363/

I was wondering if anyone could help point me in the right direction for where to find it.

Thanks

Is there someone here that managed to use ngrok or something like it to make their torrent client connectable without port forwarding? Something like announcing my address to the tracker as the ngrok address, so that people can connect to me using that and download.

Some people say it's wrong to #torrent because it disincentivizes people from making new content, but all I want is to be able to find the content that's already been made!

What's immoral is not #seeding your #torrents after you download them! @piracy

I had Mullvad and the port forwarding was awesome but that is going away soon.

Ive tried to look around for the best vpns but I keep reading really mixed things so here I am hoping to get some answers for the best vpn for torrenting that has port forwarding.
