It sucks. As a dude, I feel it's almost impossible to balance being confident and approaching women you don't know and also not being a creep or bothering them. I'm not the best but not the worst when it comes to looks, I have many friends of different genders (shoutout to my enby fellows who have to deal with this mess and also discrimination) and I'm confident in most things I do aside from dating. It's gotten to the point I just won't ask women out due to anxiety over coming across as a creep or bothering them, and instead endure loneliness. Which is not great, but it is what it is.

Who would have thought that relying on fossil fuel from a country invading the middleman between you is a bad idea? I'm shocked!

You are not only working to mentain a functional society, you are also working to constantly grow it (each year more stuff must be made, more money must be earned, more of everything) it and also to create a very big surplus for the rich. We also burn perfectly edible food, ruin perfectly wearable clothing and make electronic devices that intentionally break in a few years to get you to buy another one sooner just to get the 1% more money. If we didn't do all that and they lived normal, non-luxury lives, everyone would have a lot more free time. If everyone worked only 20 hours a week, we'd make enough to sustain our society.

Epicureanism teaches that you will never have enough money, enough fame, enough influence, so chasing after those will never make you happy. Instead, you should focus on fulfilling your needs and fixing problems in your life, getting enough to eat, enough sleep, surrounding yourself with friends and enjoying the small things in life. When you're unburdened by needs, you reach long-lasting happiness.

So to me, that means earning enough to fulfill your needs is enough, especially if you don't have to worry about losing your job any time soon

It's Life by You for those that don't want to access the link.

Such a shame, I was excited for the game.

I think non-militarized cops, so most non-American ones, are not that bad and are generally more decent people than militarized cops. It's amazing how much better policing can be when cops don't carry guns with them all the time

The summary for this video hurts my eyes to look at.

I don't agree. The simple fact that Lemmy is decentralised is a political thing. It's about who has power over the platform, and that is inherently a political issue. The status-quo of other platforms, that being under the control of a corporation, is also a political stance.

PS: everything is politics, that's not a good or bad thing, it's neutral. If you don't think of something as political, that just means it's oriented towards the status-quo you are used to.

I mean, if they want to, sure. Point is society wouldn't be reliant on that since everything necessary for society to function would be taken care of during the said 20 hour workweek. I don't care if somebody wants to set up a tomato farm or a donkey ranch or whatever on the side, as long as they don't exploit or mistreat anyone.

If we didn't all work to produce excess wealth for the super wealthy, we'd have 20 hour workweeks. People can do a lot with that extra time.

Genuinely ignorant, what wrong with Al-Jazeera? Sure, it's biased on some topics, but aren't all news sources?

It is obvious that men, with they physically stronger bodies and larger frames, are better than women at chess. It would be unfair to them to compete with eachother, since the male brain is the bigger muscle. /s

In all seriousness, I see absolutely no point in gender divisions in chess of all things.

Basically how subreddits like r/LFG worked.

There are so many great song in my mother tongue that virtually nobody aside from the relatively few speakers could realistically even come into contact with. I'm certain all of you non-English speakers here can relate! I linked one of my favourite songs, what are yours?

Hey y'all! I've been thinking about starting a group of Legacy. For those who don't know, the system is a Powered by the Apocalypse game set in a Post-Apocalyptic setting of any kind (I was thinking a zombie apocalypse) where the players take control of factions. You shepherd your community through the ages and you also take control of significant characters from them to solve various threats to your community. You take decisions at both the faction and personal level, and you both cooperate and compete with the other players for resources.

My timezone is EEST. If you're interested, leave a comment or a DM and I'll be in touch!

In the old days of a few years ago, I used The Trove to find all I needed. Is there any replacement? I'm specifically looking for niche ttrpgs.

Preferably one that's not a rom hack, though I dig those too. I'm looking for something a bit harder than the originals and maybe a bit more mature, but still fair and whimsical. I'd like a game with pokemon from as many gens as possible, and fakemons are fine too.

She also has a little plush fish that she always brings to me for safekeeping!
