I think cross contaminating other things that may eventually come into contact with us would be the other issue. I've seen lots of people let dogs lick their face and such. Personally, that grosses me out, but sometimes dogs do go wild and it may be unavoidable. Although you're probably copping a bit more than some leftover salmonella if you let your dog lick your face!
Yes, dog licks are disgusting. When I first got Mr Woof he was in the habit of trying to lick my face whenever he got a bit excited. After much coaching and my advice that "no one likes a dog that can't hold his licker" that problem is under control and we are now a lick free household.
