Green Party candidate Jill Stein is gaining ground among Muslim-American voters in three critical swing states: Michigan, Arizona, and Wisconsin, according to a recent poll by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Stein leads Vice President and Democrat candidate Kamala Harris in these states, with 40 per cent support in Michigan, 35 per cent in Arizona, and 44 per cent in Wisconsin. This surge in popularity appears tied to Stein’s vocal criticism of US support for Israel during the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

On the contrary if they withold their votes Liberals will have to start appealing to them to win them back.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 days ago

I'm talking about liberals more broadly, not politicians. The angry mass of liberals might decide to get revenge, even if it isn't in the Democratic Party's interests.

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Possibly but they've already shown to care little about brown people while the Muslims did vote Democrat in 2020. They even refused a Palestinian speaker at the DNC.

In the end when the propaganda machine decides it's time to go it goes and targets whomever needs to be dehumanized. And most people from both sides will accept the propaganda without question.

Okay now you're contradicting yourself. It sounds like Democrats don't have to start appealing to Muslims. They'll just crank out propaganda and join Republicans in eradicating them. And what are they going to do? Vote Republican?

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I'm saying that voting Democrat does not gain them any immunity from being racially profiled by Democrats.

They have already appealed to Democrats and got nothing in return.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago

But you're also saying that Democrats will have to appeal to them if they withhold their votes. I don't think they do. Democrats could just write them off like they already do other groups.

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Democrats only have so much leeway before they have to crawl back and appeal to voters. Especially since the elections are so close and minority groups hold significant voting power.

Biden got replaced because Democrats realized he was going to lose to Trump. Not because the establishment didn't want to run him.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago

There's a difference between swapping out Biden for an identical younger candidate and actually appealing to Muslims on this issue.

I think they'd rather help Republicans kill them.

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world -2 points 2 days ago

Of course, they all got together to do Islamophobia in unison after 9/11. But what the Bidens ousting proves is that Democrats cannot literally just do whatever they want. There are limits to how hard they can sell out.

Those limits are set by the amount of people willing to vote for it. The DNC would have 100% ran Biden again if they could manage to get their skeleton puppet re-elected again.

Democrats changed Biden for the simple reason of people not willing to vote for him. Nobody will get what they want by simply caving for the DNC and voting for them unconditionally. Democrats did not want to change Biden they were forced to listen for votes.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Biden's ousting proves that the party donors control the party. They changed candidates because the donors didn't want him, and as soon as they changed the Party was showered with money.

Now certainly voter enthusiasm was part of that, but only to a certain extent. Donors aren't going to pull funding because Democrats join a bipartisan Muslim ban.

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world -1 points 2 days ago

Donors did everything they could to keep Biden in. Even after Biden 'beat medicare' in his debate with Trump he got backing from the establishment.

The establishment ditched Biden solely because had no shot at beating Trump. No matter how much he was the perfect ghoul puppet, if he can't win there's nothing for his donors to control.

Both parties are trying to sell votes to the highest bidders. Their goal is to sell out as much as possible while still winning the election. But they are now straddling so close to that line that they need to make compromises.

Many immigrants tried to vote Democrat in 2020 only to be met with "build the wall". Muslims loyally voted Democrat and were met with Genocide in Palestine. When politicians don't get punished for going against their voters interests they only learn to keep doing it. After all why should they listen to their base if they keep voting for them

Democrats don't want to waste money on a loser

Yes thats my point. They will only respond and appeal to voters when they drop in the polls.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 day ago

They're polling very poorly among Muslims.

The problem is that Muslims are a minority voting population. They only effect the race in a few states. Biden was so bad that he was hurting Democrats in every state.

I just don't think Democrats will do anything to chase Muslim voters. They'd rather help Republicans eliminate them.

I half agree. They are small in number but they have a huge advantage that they primarily live in swing states where all votes matter. If they lived in a blue state you would be completely right.

I just don’t think Democrats will do anything to chase Muslim voters. They’d rather help Republicans eliminate them.

In the end it really comes down to whether Democrats feel enough pressure before the election to take action. If Trump keeps flopping and crashing in the election they hold little power. If the polls are super close there's a chance Democrats will be forced to take action just like how they dumped Biden.
