Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. It's probably fake, but if this bothers you then you should probably already have a physical cover for your camera.
Electrical or painter's tape is a cheap and efficient solution.

I got one for free from one of my first real jobs. They also provided me a laptop with a physical camera switch so they probably just didn't think it through, they spent several excess cents on the cover.
We know there's users who want the cover but will never think it's possible there's one built in already.
