Which video conferencing platforms give the host the ability to remotely turn on other people's cameras?

[-] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 142 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities... some consider to be unnatural.

Edit: unfortunately it's fake.

[-] RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 143 points 2 weeks ago

Unfortunately?

That would be such a massive privacy issue that I don't think any video conferencing software would ever implement that.

Please select all videos with couches to continue.

ED Vance never does 😢

(Disclaimer: it’s okay if you have ED, this is only directed at couchfoker)

Biological males don't need to have a hard dick to get off, prostates exist.

[-] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 weeks ago

You underestimate the power of the Dark Side.

[-] errer@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

…oh so Microsoft Teams?

[-] OozingPositron@feddit.cl 15 points 2 weeks ago

But it would be funny.

[-] NocturnalEngineer@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Would make an interesting HR discussion though.

[-] Kaboom@reddthat.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

You underestimate dumbass designers and devs who don't give a shit

[-] RedditWanderer@lemmy.world 90 points 2 weeks ago

It's probably fake, but if this bothers you then you should probably already have a physical cover for your camera.

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago

Electrical or painter's tape is a cheap and efficient solution.

[-] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 44 points 2 weeks ago

Big flex though dropping 99 cents on these

(if using the camera more than once or twice a month)

[-] boonhet@lemm.ee 9 points 2 weeks ago

I got one for free from one of my first real jobs. They also provided me a laptop with a physical camera switch so they probably just didn't think it through, they spent several excess cents on the cover.

[-] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

We know there's users who want the cover but will never think it's possible there's one built in already.

[-] BluJay320@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 weeks ago

I just keep mine pointed at the ceiling unless it’s in use

[-] CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

But what about that large spider's privacy? Come on, show some respect...

[-] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

I also unplug it to be extra sure

[-] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 14 points 2 weeks ago

One that allows you to see things that will never be unseen again.

[-] xia@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 2 weeks ago

Seems like asking for trouble... and law suits.

IMPORTANT

Please do not post the "good friend" or similar copypasta

==========

Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.
