I can recommend getting serious with Proton and getting rid of Gmail. I've started two years ago and now I have the Gmail account only for some historical stuff, I use it like once a month.
To be honest. I don't really use Gmail. Only for YouTube, and my phone, as its stick android. And yes, I am aware that's a bit shit. But, I can't be arsed fucking about woth rooting and flashing and all that. Gmail is for like things I don't care about. And I've got a main Hotmail from absolutely years ago. It must be at least 14 years old at this point which has near enough everything on it. And I really can't be arsed moving everything over. But whenever I make a new account I'm gonna use proton. And if there's things that I do care about. I'll likely move those big ones over.
I love protonmail, I’ve had it for several years now. Tutanota is another good alternative as well and it’s cheaper compared to proton.
May I ask what you use as a Google Drive/Photos alternative? I've already ditched Gmail but I'm having a hard time finding private alternatives for these two services
If you're willing to self-host, check out Immich. It's pretty much the go to google photos replacement.
For Google Drive I use Proton Drive, Photos I still haven't migrated, but I'm not a photo person, it's not a priority.
How happy are you with ProtonDrive? Last time I took a look at it, they just launched it and it was only the web version. Looks like they now have mobile apps but still no desktop client?
I use it only for sharing external files, so desktop client doesn't really matter to me. I haven't much tried even the mobile apps, my flow is pretty much upload file via web, copy link and send it (it was the same with Google Drive for me). For automatic synchronization of files I use a mix of Synology Drive and Syncthing.
Hmm alright. I move around a lot, so a NAS isn't a great option for me, hence looking into cloud services. Thanks though.
