Nah, I watch plenty of anime. There's just so much source material from Manga and generally more unique stories than standard television. You can also do a lot more with animation than with live action, and convey more abstract concepts better.
In my eyes, most US television falls into these categories:
Cop-aganda
medical drama
superheroes
insert US alphabet agency action drama
comedy soap opera
fantasy is an exception more often than the norm. I want good, immersive storytelling. Something that may very well traumatize me if told well enough. Something to make me cry. Something to make me furious.
There's plenty of generic crap anime out there too of course, but it generally isn't going to get an English dub if it's really bad (I watch subbed too) so that can be a tell.
