US election commentsI’m very dismayed by the US election result. I wouldn’t have been shocked at a trump win, I thought it would be close so was a possibility. But was not mentally prepared for a such a large margin. So many Americans want this? I would like to think they didn’t understand what they were really voting for. I have a sinking feeling thinking about what the next four years might have ahead both for Americans, and globally for places like Ukraine and the Middle East.

It’s apparently going to weaken the Australian economy too? Which is fun.

I want to rage and call Americans stupid, and to be fair a lot of them did buy in to the hate and spin.

But I think there was also a lot of gerrymandering and ratfuckery at play. And apparently voting in America works differently to Australia. Can’t imagine being a minority in America right now.

I really hope this doesn’t hasten the Americanisation of Australia or import more crazy bullshit

I don't think so. The working class here are more compliant and don't think in terms of rights like Americans do. Thus Australians have fewer resentments and less anger than Americans. They don't need to bring in full strength fascism here to crush the working class and labour movement.

It will be more like English class oppression.
