I’m now afraid for reproductive rights in Australia.

[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 10 points 2 days ago

Nah. It'll be alright. We don't generally go backwards. We go at a snails pace forward unless it's a pay rise for pollies then it's all speed ahead.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 11 points 1 day ago

We don’t generally go backwards.

This is generally true. Except for the destruction of medicare, loss of local manufacturing industry, no taxation on our mineral resources, expensive and half useless universities and no consequences for government corruption

"Why yes, I do apologise to my cat when she meows at me for not brushing her exactly the way she likes. Don't you?"

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 2 days ago

I get a bite and a hiss . Tomorrow Ted will be held down by the vet while I brush out his knots. I have kevlar gloves.

World news aside, I've finished my first day at the new job. I think I need to get past induction and do some actual work, and start working from home, before I can decide if this was the right choice.

I think it will be. I need to remember how shit my old work was, even before things for really bad. Once I get started I won't wish I got things right in the old role, because even when things were working, they were just barely, and things were still shit

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 10 points 1 day ago

Now is the time to narrow my view, focus in on my own world, school, partner, Mickey, coffee, chocolate, beer. I don't want to know about the world anymore, not for a while. I can't let this drag my mood down. I have good things in my life idc about anything else lol

[-] underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

I reckon it could be a good time to read more books and avoid the internet.

[-] Duenan@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

I’m going to try to do the same as well.

Work, coffee, podcasts, bit of shopping, streaming shows and movies and video games.

Ugh, that smug dipshit Elon Putzk will be positively gloating.. ugh, the thought is personally repulsive. How could they not love Tim Walz? Did they really want to not vote for a coloured woman so hard that they voted for a racist rapist delusional carny sheisty pathological liar instead‽ Jesus Christmas cookie Christ.

[-] DuckyMcDuckface@aussie.zone 7 points 2 days ago

Real talk, they didn't vote for Trump because Harris is a POC woman, the reasoning seems to be much simpler, and dumber

  1. The economy isn't great
  2. It was better under Trump (any thoughts revolving around why it was better cough covid price gouging and shit trump repealed don't exist)
  3. Vote trump

My cat's heart isn't working well and he doesn't have a great prognosis, but he's well and happy in himself and I'm focusing on that. We'll be ok.

I've just ordered takeaway for the first time in yonks. Fried goodness is now on the way to me and in the meantime I've poured a glass of wine. I will enjoy it and not wallow.

And I'm putting my fingers in my ears and ignoring the news out of the US.

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 9 points 2 days ago

I’m sorry. I’m hoping he has some more good days and can soak up the love for as long as possible

[-] Eagle@aussie.zone 9 points 2 days ago

Many hugs to you and puss. ❤️

So there’s now literal children buying anti-aging products like retinol and there’s a hair disclosing spray so women can completely defuzz their whole faces?

People are getting preventative Botox and giving themselves gastroparesis by using Ozempic and 20 year olds are either removing the fat from their cheeks or getting fillers? Celebrities with slightly crooked teeth are getting full veneers or caps?

Earlier periods of history got a bad reputation for their rigid beauty standards and rightfully so but I feel like it’s all much more out of control now because internet. Modern beauty standards are insane.

Screw that I’m crawling back under my rock

Just as a little moment of grounding... What are we all having for dinner on this sombre evening? I gotta use up my other half tin of coconut cream, so I'm going to do a rich tomato curry with tvp balls that I also need to use up. Along with the leftover everything-in-one veggie and dal curry and boiled eggs my aunt gave me.

I’m still fairly limited in what I’m able to have but a few squares of dark chocolate just climbed into my mouth

top comment on The Daily Show summary video is "I Prey for Ukraine". No words for the feeling of when that registers in your mind. I hadnt even consdidered.... Will the EU step up? God. I just.... those poor people.

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 6 points 2 days ago

My partner just said it would be darkly humourous if America delays entering another world war.... Again lol.

I wanna see the other timeline ffs

So I put in a request to cancel my group fitness membership after the next billing. Will check out the local council gym and also another one to try and get my mum to come along.

US election commentsI’m very dismayed by the US election result. I wouldn’t have been shocked at a trump win, I thought it would be close so was a possibility. But was not mentally prepared for a such a large margin. So many Americans want this? I would like to think they didn’t understand what they were really voting for. I have a sinking feeling thinking about what the next four years might have ahead both for Americans, and globally for places like Ukraine and the Middle East.

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It’s apparently going to weaken the Australian economy too? Which is fun.

I want to rage and call Americans stupid, and to be fair a lot of them did buy in to the hate and spin.

But I think there was also a lot of gerrymandering and ratfuckery at play. And apparently voting in America works differently to Australia. Can’t imagine being a minority in America right now.

I really hope this doesn’t hasten the Americanisation of Australia or import more crazy bullshit

I've finally started at the new job. Let me know if you're having trouble with your employer, I can send them an email that should scare them into shape.

I'm working for the sort of government department departments wouldn't want to hear from, as long as they don't dig too deep and look at my job title

Oh joy. Impending major restructuring at my workplace. No redundancies, more like the drive-the-people-remaining-to-breaking-point strategy.

My 11th year may end up being my last, time to dust off the resume and get the hell out of here :| At least I hit my LSL eligibility beforehand... :\

I want to buy more seeds and garden stuff but the money… the limited number of pots and the invasive grass… the fact that it might get stolen or the garden destroyed/raided…

:(
