Our developers are volunteers, but they still need funding to travel to meetings and events, take time off their day job to implement those crucial features, and buy or rent equipment and server space.

ok, but how to donate to an app? I only see a link to become a supporting member of KDE itself

Many app projects do not have the infrastructure to accept donations (but som do: check the individual pages of each app or donate through GitHub).
You donate to KDE, and that reverts to the project maintainers, developers and other contributors.
nah, I just misunderstood the call to action, I was expecting a link for each app.
