If people pay for the higher prices then it doesn’t matter. The general public would need to boycott or literally not be able to afford the prices of the good. Unfortunately, we all are very poorly disciplined in that regard, myself included.

literally not be able to afford the prices of the good.

some of us are already here, and we're about to get a lot of company.

Unfortunately, that’s what it’s gonna take. I’m seeing it slightly in the automobile industry.

Especially if shops like Tesco as much as double your prices without loyalty cards. Tesco is the worst, haven't been there for months (as a customer).

Tesco Clubcard, Kaufland Card, Billa Bonus club, Lidl Plus (app required), Coop Jednota Club.

There is no alternative. Supermarket chains killed most small shops. Oh, and you may still need an app to manage it even if you have a plastic card.

That’s the spirit! Isn’t that what we pay taxes for?

Haha sarcasm I presume. Boycotting certain restaurants or goods would be effective. I myself get take out more than I should or need to.

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

Unfortunately not sarcasm. When grocery stores are colluding to raise prices, what can you do?

[-] venusaur@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Fair. Essential items have gone up in price. There are other items that aren’t necessary that could be boycotted.

People will pay whatever a company asks as long as people have money or credit. By "people" I mean the consumerist masses, not you and me.

[-] venusaur@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Haha I unfortunately count in the consumerist masses. Don’t use credit much anymore, but definitely addicted to Amazon Prime.

I actually didn't buy something I wanted yesterday and found an alternative instead because of the out of control price gouging the last few years. I bought a compost bin there 4 years ago for $24. I needed a new one and went to my purchase history to buy the same one. They want $50 now. Seriously, man? 100% price increase in 4 years? Nah man. I found something else. The worst part is that it wasn't even a good can. The lid broke after a year. $50 for a tiny one gallon trash can that'll last a year is completely ridiculous.

That’s ridiculous. Nothing on Amazon lasts very long these days, crazy to raise prices on low quality stuff. Good for you for finding an alternative. I always try to get the cheapest stuff. I need to be better about only getting what I need and not pulling the trigger whenever I think of something I need.
