140gb for a game is insanity bro
Baldur's Gate 3 is 150gb, so not really.
Just because it's happened elsewhere doesn't mean it isn't crazy
Sure it's a bit crazy, but it's really not as crazy as you seem to feel. That's just the way expansive, fancy gfx games are going.
The base game or the patch? Not surprised about the base game considering how much detail modern games have and how large textures have gotten; however it sounds like the patch size is a Microsoft problem, not the devs.
