Fun fact: "Esquire" is a courtesy title and has no particular meaning in the modern era, so it's likely that this guy just wanted his name to look fancier on the sign.

In the US it means you're a barred attorney. If you've been dibarred or never passed the bar you have to sign "John Doe, JD."
