Having a tankie instance as prominent as .ml is already hurting the Fediverse. It's not a few bad Apple communities, it's literally the admins and mods cultivating an instance wide Tankie culture/factory full of China-bootlicking and genocide denials

[-] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The beauty of the fediverse is that people can block and see whatever they want. If you don't like what you see, that's a you problem not .ml's

Gee, I wonder what your disagreement is

Dramatic 🙄

Fine, can we concede that while they're allowing other topics to flourish on their instance there are also unwritten rules that lead to confused banned users?

[-] Diva@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 days ago

Can you elaborate about unwritten rules? Most of the bans I've seen has been for pretty clear rules violations, there's some stuff which might fly on reddit (like xenophobia, sexism, racism, transphobia), that will catch a ban here. Having rules against bigotry actually getting enforced is probably a confusing occurrence for some redditors. Even people behaving hostile will generally only catch a temp ban to cool down, permanent bans are more for people who are being bigoted.

I have had plenty of issues with at least one of the admins, despite that I have yet to be censored for saying as much. The red-baiting disguised as legitimate concerns rubs me the wrong way though.

So you admit to paying 0 attention?

YePowerTrippingBastards on my home instance is a good starting place, have fun

Or, you know, play the classic .ml card of pretending you don't know what we're all talking about

Or, you know, play the classic .ml card of pretending you don’t know what we’re all talking about

Literally the only complaint of substance I've seen in this entire thread is people who want to be allowed to use slurs

Literally every single comment I've seen of yours boils down to "Oh come on, EVERYBODY says so!"

It's almost as if you know you're in friendly territory so you don't actually have to have any meaning behind your words. You're free to use them as your playthings /sartre

More like I consider anyone who pretends not to know what we're talking about as a willful idiot not worth taking seriously

I don't have time to deal with those who deny reality, be it MAGA shitstains or blind tankies

[-] AntiOutsideAktion@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago

It's hard to keep up with all the reality you're inventing

[-] Diva@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago

More often than not someone when complains about getting banned and I bother to follow up in the modlog it turns out that they got like a 3-7 day ban for acting like an complete asshole. Then they proceed to vague post about it months later despite the ban being long over.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Most of the time, yeah. But there have been enough other cases over the past couple years that I wouldn't put too many eggs in that basket (or any for that matter).

[-] AntiOutsideAktion@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

vaguepost replies remain undefeated

[-] Kaboom@reddthat.com 6 points 2 days ago

The tricky bit is how you guys have redefined what xenophobia/sexism/racism/transphobia means. I don't mind catching a ban, but at least get the reason right.

[-] Diva@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

You haven't even had any mod action taken against you on lemmy.ml from what I can tell.

Plenty of other instances that you do use have banned you for racism and trolling though.

This one from hexbear was really funny:

[-] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

You are unwittingly making their point for them. Hilarious!

[-] AntiOutsideAktion@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

Do you actually have any points or thoughts or is it all just mugging to the audience with you?

[-] Diva@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I mean they never even got banned from .ml, but here's a sample of other places they've been kicked out of, so this isn't really making the case for authoritarian mods on .ml tbh

[-] Kaboom@reddthat.com 5 points 2 days ago

I remember that. Yeah, some hexbear users were saying that all white people should be killed. Apparently saying "no one should be killed for the color of their skin" is racism. Or at least according to their definition of racism.

I am so glad I blocked their instance.

Question: When people say 'death to America' do you interpret that as the systematic killing of everyone that lives in America or are you able to appreciate that as a structural critique and imperative?

Because what was described before you linked that was "kill all the whites" and what is actually there is "death to the whites"

Are you not able to see the difference? What do you think 'whiteness' is? Are you under the impression that it's a race? Before you answer that, come up with an answer to my follow up question: How did the Irish become white? Gene splicing?

[-] Diva@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I appreciate the clarifying question, I actually have an Iranian friend that explained to me that in Farsi, that the slogan 'Marg Bar Ameriki' or 'Death to America' (farsi does not contain 'down with xyz' in it, 'death to xyz' is the linguistic equivalent), it's is not commonly intended as a literal death threat, but an expression of political opposition, or opposition to a state of affairs.

One might say 'death to traffic' for example, that doesn't mean you want to literally kill everyone blocking your car or whatever, it's more a statement of exasperation and opposition. As a political slogan it isn't intending to mean death to Americans, but to the American government. It does sounds edgy in an english translation though.

To your question, 'white' is not a race, it's more a self-identification and class signifier. Non-white ethnicities (Irish, Italians, etc) have a long history of assimilating as 'white' by becoming cops, landlords, and other active participants in American settlement/ westward expansion. That's not to say there aren't poor people who also identify as white, but if they are ever going to really have solidarity with other nonwhite people they really need to kill that white settler in their head.

I read 'death to whites' in this context as a poster complaining about, and expressing opposition to the bias in narratives/social media platforms - the thread was originally someone venting about racist comments on reddit, and white lemmmy users felt the need to get defensive about the most surface level reading.

For reference I said 'death to america' just the other day in a reply to a post about how florida prisons are going to be forcibly detransitioning prisoners, because it's a fucked up situation and at this point I don't see a way to really fix the bigger problems at play without some fundamental changes to what 'America' is.

[-] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml -4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Dude, chill. I got banned from hexbear for literally the exact same reason. Who cares? Let them run their own instance the way they want. They're blocked and you don't have to look at them anymore.

Authoritarian racists exist and want to murder you, welcome to planet earth. First day?

A reminder why under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered by the working class.

Check the modlogs. .ml uses rule 1 as a catch all for whatever is said that hurts their feelings.

Almost daily there are removals and bans that don’t break rules.

[-] Diva@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago

weird, looks like you got banned for the same thing on lemmy.world, (hostility, repeatedly calling people "kids" in a derogatory way, and trivializing the ongoing genocide), but only had a post removed for similar behavior on .ml.
