Welcome
Community discovery still needs some improvement. To help broadcast new communities locally or federated, this community will be a place to advertise your community or one you wish to share.
Tools
There are some tools to help discover new communities.
Rules
- Follow Lemmy code of conduct
- Only one community per post.
- Post must follow the formatting template below.
- No spamming of the same community.
Post formatting
Lemmy has specific requirements for searching for communities, posts, comments, etc. Because of this, you must format your post in an easy-to-copy-and-paste way for folks to search.
Post format
The formatting must include the following items in the format shown in a code block below.
Title
Title must include name followed by the community handle.
{community name}: {community handle}
Example:
cat pics: [!cat@lemmy.world](/c/cat@lemmy.world)
Fields
- Community name
- Description of the community or why you're sharing.
- Direct link to the community
- A local/relative link to the community.
- This is helpful to check if the community has already been federated with Discuss.online
Template
# {community name}
## Description
{describe what you like about it and what makes it unique}
## Links
- [Direct link](https://{domain.tld}/c/{community})
- [Local link](/c/{community}@{instance.tld})
Example:
# Discuss
## Description
Random chat topics. Great place to discover new things!
## Links
- [Direct link](https://discuss.online/c/discuss)
- [Local link](/c/discuss@discuss.online)

Hi! I'm not sure if you intended it this way, but your shows up in "discuss online", and in order for me to comment where the other two comments are, it is asking me to sign in, which I already am
You'll notice that those 2 comments, including your intro, are not here where this comment is
Is this community somehow separate from Lemmy?
If it is, I can say that my involvement will be zero, unless I can comment with ease, without logging into another system
Sorry I'm confused but I'm sorta new to all of this as well
...?
So I'm pretty fucking new too.
I think Discuss is part of Lemmy?! But, I do not really have a fucking clue. I registered on there and can comment here easily? And the main page for them says "A general purpose Lemmy instance for discovery, fun, & sharing. It's a Lemmy place for all." So...?
Welcome! The correct format for posting links to communities over here is like this: !human_services@discuss.online (the exclamation point is important!)
That will ensure that anyone clicking it opens it on their home instance and can reply as normal. Direct linking the url will take you to the community as viewed from the discuss.online instance, and those who don't have an account there will be prompted to log in. Makes sense?
Thanks!
