Well yes. China is playing the long quiet game, it's part of their strategy. They look for opportunities to see how they can take advantage.

Still, this doesn't acquit China of being co-instigator or co-sponsor of the Russian invasion. (ed)

True. But, if it looks like the Russia is about to win the war, it makes sense for China to decrease its support so that there won't be a victory. China needs the Russia to lose – only, after as long time as possible.
