As the title suggests, the larger gaps are to be filled with Kumiko. The smaller gaps will be left empty. I though about a simple pattern as in the demo lantern on the right in this picture.

Do you have other ideas? All I can currently do with my mitre saw are square patterns. Cannot do triangles, unfortunately.

This is awesome so far! I’ve been wanting to make one too. What kind of joinery is it?

Its just butt joints with round dowels. With 12mm thick bars I think there wasn't much more space for any other dowel type. Nor do I have the tools 😄

Oh okay I think I can kind of see a dowel joint in one picture but most of them are hidden. Very cool. Can’t wait to see the finished product. I bet the light it casts will be just delicious
