Comedy is pain relief for tragedy, it's how we deal with things that don't make sense to us, like the unnecessary deaths of thousands of people, it's not that we find it funny, it's just our brains can't cope with the concept of someone willingly doing that.
Like some people must have found it legitimately funny and they're weird fucks, but most people use gallows humour to deal with horrible situations that shouldn't have ever happened, but did and we have to deal with it somehow.
I joke about some things that have happened to me and it would sound like I was making light of the situation or mocking it, but it's the only way to deal with it without breaking down.
We still mourn the situation and lives lost tho, just use humour to soften the blow.
It's not for everyone tho.
