Accidentally clicked on an nutter antivax conspiracy facebook link sent by a cooker inlaw. RIP my phone from whatever the algorithms serve me for the next 3 months. What level of exorcism do I need to decontaminate my phone?

I click "see less of" and "hide this post" on everything that Facebook suggests. My feed is now mostly just the subscribed groups (plus the ads, you can't get rid of those).

If you want to completely decontaminate your phone you'll need to get rid of Facebook entirely.

I am finding this to not work. Ads I hit hide on turn up again straight away. No idea why the bloody thing thinks I want to buy an inflatable kayak.

I don't think it has any effect on the ads. But hiding the "suggested" posts seems to work for a short while.

I really wish more people would embrace moving away from Facebook though, I'm primarily there because of some of the groups, and until there are enough people willing to participate in the same type of groups eelsewhere I'm stuck with either using Faceboook or giving up on the groups.

Same here. I’ve moved away from it and taken long breaks but there’s only a few who will contact me via other means.

Also while I’m not big on events now - all the event promo and notifications moved there.

My hope that we can create an easy-to-use fediverse alternative to FB groups and events is literally why I'm here. Help me make this happen!!

Yeah. I gave in to using it in the first place because of Events being on there and nowhere else. Some of the communities are fantastic, others utter poo. Blue sky and Lemmy aren't big enough to do the same stuff yet.
