When did the original meaning leave? I thought woke had always meant being aware of social issues.

Maybe around the time the right started using it but couldn’t define it then everyone realized it just meant whatever they didn’t like.

With the way that it's been used in the last few years, it was starting to look like 'woke' means when a female character gets treated as anything other than a damsel in distress in superhero movies. Also, 'woke' is when gay people.
