What? Where are the republicans who are creating this, voting for this, and not stopping trump in any fashion? This seems like a weird thing to say. Maybe you made a typo?
I think the implication is that the repubs are the fascists.
I've never heard of a republican being called a liberal though. I've seen memes with "libtards", "libtears," etc. That to me says liberals aren't republicans.
US casual political rhetoric is all kinds of screwed. In political science terms, plenty of Republicans are conservative liberals, Libertarians are essentially classical liberals, and the people you're used to calling liberals are social liberals, aka progressive liberals. The USA is [still...] a liberal democracy, one of the many types of democracy.
I don’t know how you’ve been on Lemmy for two years and are hearing this for the first time. Previously:
What people in the US usually call “conservative” and what they call “liberal” are both liberal. Fascists in the Republican party aside, both it and the Democratic party are liberal parties. And liberalism and fascism have more in common than most people realize.
You might want to look at other comments in this thread:

What about those comments? The Palestinian genocide has been bipartisan, aided and abetted by both Biden and Trump. And on the campaign trail, Harris created no daylight between herself and Biden on the issue.
@davel @pelespirit Disregard the other stuff I said, I thought they were being weird. I'm using my account through slash commands rn so I can't edit or anything.
@pelespirit @davel Lmao I thought that Jill Stein guy you were mentioning was you. Keep being a weird little Zionist snitch it won't make political opposition to fascism in the US real. None of you people are serious.
They're not calling republicans liberals, they're calling republicans fascists
@Amnesigenic @pelespirit Yeah I'm saying they're both fascists but also that conservatism is liberalism. Western factions have a bunch of annoying terminology. Like "leftists" or "the left" being the dems to a lot of people. Or tje british labour party @pelespirit @palestine
@pelespirit @AlexanderTheDead Neoconservatism is actually a branch of economic liberalism
This just seems like a way to confuse the labels and cause infighting even if it's somewhat correct. Like when republicans claim to be the party of Lincoln, they're trying to step back from from their bad choices and racism so they can get reelected.
Yes, that was the purpose of the curated distinction. These labels were understood in the past and intentionally muddied to disrupt unity against them.
So now, for example, instead of a liberal party and a labor party, you have 2 liberal parties. One who identifies as "liberal" while the other identifies as "conservative" but they ultimately serve the same purpose.
They want to pass the narrative that liberalism isn't a conservative ideology and vice versa because that serves their purposes. They want people to fight over which brand of liberalism they prefer, not whether they want liberalism at all.
Because
@pelespirit Please don't engage in guesswork based on American political mythology. https://annas-archive.se/md5/67557b8f7b42be96aa9a10ef865fd1db
Meanwhile in this thread:
@pelespirit Oh lol I thought you were a Jill Stein supporter I misread that. Can you restate what exactly your problem is? I'd prefer you take the book recommendation and go be annoying to someone else.
@pelespirit Demonrats and rethuglicans must all be vanquished. Yeah Jill Stein's pretty lame but I find I agree with you and other supporters on 90% of issues so it's chill
Yeah, I'm not sure how you're confused by anything being said right now. You could have said "both are fascist" or something if that's the point you wanted to make. What you said didn't make any sense. You said "where are the republicans" when they were being mentioned. Idk. Weird. Maybe a typo or something.
Historically, the moderates in the United States have always been against the left.
A lot of United States moderates (liberals) support the genocide . I understand the majority of liberals are against the mass murder and war crimes. But it ain’t peanuts for those who do support it. See, for example, the original topic here: at least half the Democratic congresspeople will vote for this.
It’s really easy to get these all mixed up if one is left leaning.
The problem with America is that it has multiple flavors of fascist-like behavior, and a limited vocabulary in modern slang to be able to distinguish these with names.
So I can understand when liberals are called fascists, even if it confuses people.
@pelespirit blue MAGA attacking anti genocide and pro Palestinians, just like thy did about Ralf Nader or Jill Stein for the Fuck up of their policies.
They have voted for every anti Palestinian and pro genocide legislation and program GOP put ahead of them.
