Gabe Evans is a fucking loser that barely won that district... but read this thing. Don't just take the headline at face-value, cause that's also wrong.
Read the fucking thing. Here it is again: https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:US:d2810458-ed0c-4ba8-9bb6-185c18b7c95c?viewer%21megaVerb=group-discover
Again, fuck Gabe Evans but this headline is sensationalist bullshit. Read the thing.
For the lazy:
Resolved, That the House of Representatives-- (1) condemns Mohammed Sabry Soliman and his antisemitic terrorist attack on peaceful demonstrators supporting the release of the hostages held by Hamas; (2) prays for the quick healing of the victims of Mohammed Sabry Soliman's antisemitic terrorist attack; (3) affirms that free and open communication between State and local law enforcement and their Federal counterparts remains the bedrock of public safety and is necessary in preventing terrorist attacks; and (4) expresses gratitude to law enforcement officers, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel, for protecting the homeland.
This is embarrassing, but i don't know how resolutions work and I was looking at the same thing and scratching my head.
Is it that along with resolution 1, you area agreeing to the second paragraph here:
So it's this a "therefore" situation or a wrong headline and interpretation from news agencies? I have no idea.
I was going off this: https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-resolution/485/text/ih?format=txt
I realize how my post can be a bit misleading now. I put up a link to his rough draft, and the one that's in Congress doesn't actually resolve shit.
Getting it out while I still can: Free Palestine!
@Feathercrown US is the only country on earth that prosecutes it's citizens for criticizing anoter country and call for freedom of a third.
it puts a whole new meaning to "land of the free'
Have you heard of Germany?
Yeah why are you telling me though I'm aware
Ermagerd, the courts struck down our law as completely contravening freedom of speech! The courts must be abolished!
Not abolished, just uncorrupted. Which... might look like abolishment for a time.
@ikidd what?
In idiomatic english, the “ermagerd” signifies a mockery of stupidly saying ’oh my god’ followed by equally stupid conclusions.
These laws are performative. They know they'll be struck down, they just put them in so they can point at them to justify authoritarian policy going forward.
Two words
As someone who is Jewish this is insanity.
I SAY DEATH TO THE FASCISTS AND THE ZIONIST TYRANTS, I WANT NO MORE OF THE LIES
DEATH TO THE TYRANTS
DEATH TO REACTION
DEATH TO DECEIT
I'm Jewish, technically Israeli. and after what I witnessed in my years there:
FREE PALESTINE
FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA
DEATH TO APARTHEID
I have visted the occupation, in my time there I saw inhuman evils and indescribable horrors
DEATH TO OCCUPATION
DEATH COLONIALISM
DEATH TO GENOCIDE
silly leftists, free speech is for racists
Old Soviet Joke.
Two agents meet in a bar in Germany on the eve of the collapse of the Berlin Wall. The CIA agent says to the KGB agent, "Why do you continue to support the Soviet Union? You have no freedom in your country. Come to the United States. In our country, we can criticize our leaders. I can say 'Death to Ronald Reagan' and nobody will stop me."
The KGB agent shakes his head, smiling. "Why would I want to travel all the way to America in order to say that? In Moscow, we also say 'Death to Ronald Reagan' whenever we please."
Another one: A CIA agent and a KGB agent meet at a bar after talking for a while the KGB agent says to the CIA agent „You know one thing we really admire back in the USSR is your propaganda it’s really top notch“ the CIA agent looks confused and asks, „What propaganda?“
It's interesting, because Americans will be laughing at an entirely different interpretation of the joke, like "lol the Soviets think American reality is American propaganda because our lives are so great."
Lol land of free speech
Free speech protections are still in place, and this is why they are important. This resolution can't prevent people from saying it, just signals that the current house of representatives wants to.
I'm not saying they couldn't be stronger. There is a huge problem with abusing deportations this way, and other forms of legislating speech by enforcement. But please consider how much worse things can get, and what barriers still remain between here and there. That it isn't a crime to say "Free Palestine", that it isn't a simple matter of declaring it a racist slogan to make it a crime, does mean something.
But please consider how much worse things can get, and what barriers still remain between here and there.
The barriers are largely logistical. And I believe Trump's allies in Silicon Valley are closing the gap between what they want and what they can practically achieve.
That it isn’t a crime to say “Free Palestine”
If you can be targeted, arrested, and deported for doing a thing, it is a crime in every way that matters.
I guess its nice they didn't subject him to torture, indefinite detention, or summary execution. But given how many people are being sent to international black sites and concentration camps, that's hardly a given.
The question isn't whether things can get worse. The question is whether there are any avenues left for things to get better. I'm increasingly pessimistic, given the current state of play.
If you can be targeted, arrested, and deported for doing a thing, it is a crime in every way that matters.
To the extent that this does not apply to citizens at scale, there are many more people who are not effectively silenced. If they pass laws that are upheld and able to effectively silence everyone, that would be objectively a big step towards crushing dissent. There are relatively recent laws by conservative states attempting to regulate social media that have been blocked for 1st Amendment reasons. I don't see a reason to consider the legal barriers useless, they pretty clearly matter a lot here.
And I believe Trump’s allies in Silicon Valley are closing the gap between what they want and what they can practically achieve.
We're here, on a network not controlled by those companies. Free speech protections are a big part of what makes that possible.
Peaceful protests are being quashed by the literal US military/national guard. There are videos of police specifically targeting people with signs/flags they don't like with "less lethals".
Before that campus protests calling for an end to genocide were quashed by local police.
People who attend either of these protests are being jailed and/or deported.
"Free speech" is a myth.
That's fucked up and unconstitutional (not that it matters to Trumo and co) but I will say it FREE PALESTINE!!! and for good measure FUCK ISRAEL FUCKING NAZIS.
Now I am going go touch some grass, I am done with these fucking racist fascist.
We are really turning into 1920s red scare horror in the US.
Both liberal and fascists are united to crush the left. This time by hiding under antisemitism.
Congress can deem whatever they want, I'm gonna keep saying Free Palestine until Palestine is free.
GOP Rep Introduces Resolution Labeling ‘Free Palestine’ Slogan as ‘Anti-Semitism’ - Activist Post (2025-06-15)
>> Colorado GOP Congressman Gabe Evans introduced a non-binding resolution on Friday that labels ‘Free Palestine’ as “an antisemitic slogan.” The bill seeks to limit immigration of people who oppose Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine and Tel Aviv’s genocidal onslaught in the besieged Gaza Strip. The bill is expected to be voted on some time next week.
The bill reads, “Whereas, while shouting ‘Free Palestine,’ an antisemitic slogan that calls for the destruction of the state of Israel and Jewish people, Mohammed Sabry Soliman attacked the peaceful demonstrators with homemade Molotov cocktails.”

"That's a funny way to spell "destroy Israel""
Insanity
How many wars and genocides does Israel have to be involved in before "Destroy Israel" becomes a more popular slogan?
Nobody seems shy about saying "Destroy Russia" or "Break up China" or even "Invade Mexico". Hell, nobody seems shy about saying "Nuke Iran". Beginning to think there might be some kind of regional political bias to which countries we're allowed to fantasize about demolishing.
Yeah obviously any countries the old white people hate are oltologivally evil and we can go explode them but if they like them then it's illegal to disagree. I love living in such a free country
Double down on that genocide, bitches, and the news/public will track the names of the ones that do.
Nah, the news won’t do that. They’re all owned by oligarchs who are responsible for the current state of the world. Corporate news is not on our side.
No one is coming to save us, we have to do it ourselves.
so a slogan, that involves a semitic country with actual semitic roots, is antisemitic? Can't make this shit up.
Land of the REEEEE
Something something Congress shall make no law limiting speech.
what about speech they don't like?
