Debian is great but it’s not really ideal for gaming. Way out of date mesa and kernel packages.

Way out of date mesa and kernel packages.

Only if you refuse to enable Debian Backports, which would be a silly choice.

Sure, but I’m guessing most Debian users don’t bother. If you’re gaming you absolutely should though.

I’m guessing most Debian users don’t bother.

Why publicly criticize a distro based on a guess that its users are unwilling to use what it offers?

If you’re gaming you absolutely should though.

Well, if your hardware or games happen to need a new kernel or Mesa, then yes. But many do not, so it's not absolute. Also, many gamers get Mesa from Flatpak or Steam instead of their distro, in which case the version provided by Debian doesn't matter at all.

I suggest re-thinking your original comment. It's misleading, and it amplifies a popular misconception.

I’m not criticizing Debian. It’s an amazing distro. It’s just not ideal for gaming. I’m not rethinking shit. What I said is accurate even if it hurts your feelings.

What I said is accurate even if it hurts your feelings.

It isn't, and it doesn't. I was trying to help you understand what you clearly do not. Goodbye.

Why publicly criticize a distro based on a guess that its users are unwilling to use what it offers?

Because expecting users to manually add shit after the fact to make the OS functional is dumb.

True enough — but for those few who enjoy such things I must point out that debian makes kernel builds very easy to do. When mesa gets too old there will usually be a backport.
