Iran is going to close the Straight of Hormuz.

There goes the worlds economy.

25% of the worlds oil runs through there.

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 55 points 2 days ago (3 children)

And then the Trump will invade Iran to open it citing it must remain open.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Shhhh! That's supposed to be a secret plan!

[–] shplane@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

No worries, I already read it from their Signal chat

[–] torrentialgrain@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

You don’t need to invade to do that.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I still don't see that happening. Trump likes his popularity too much.

Like, he'll nuke Iran before he ever puts boots on the ground.

[–] Airowird@lemm.ee 11 points 1 day ago

He's dying to use a nuke, just to put his name in history books.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They may try.

There would be more than just the US and Israel bombing them if that happened, you just don't fuck with international trade.

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 33 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, yeah. It wouldn't be WW3 without more dance partners.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Who's going to back up Iran though? Maybe the houthis, but they barely count.

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 24 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Russia and China both have defense treaties with Iran.

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Russia probably isn't much of a concern right now.

China...we wouldn't overextend a conflict to the point where China gets involved, right? ...Not again? ...For the third time?

[–] voodooattack@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Except it won’t even be a proxy war since the US just struck directly

[–] Danquebec@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I expect China wouldn't be happy about the Straight of Hormus being closed though.

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They won't be happy watching the dollar crash and the worlds economy being replaced by BRICS and finally being rid of the US as money police?

[–] Danquebec@sh.itjust.works 1 points 17 hours ago

I may be wrong but I think China needs that straight open, mayb3 even more than the US do.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago

russia does need a stable iran, for its drone deliveries. china provides iran with huwei tech.

[–] Breezy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Pakistan, and they have nukes.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

china helped them developed it in the cold war, as a buffer to india.

Much of it is from Iran and destined for China. They won't stop those exports.
