This place really is full of itself, isn't it? All the self importance of Reddit with none of the influence sometimes.

That's true conceptually, but the Fediverse is too sparse and casual to be an actual catalyst. The best you could say is that members might talk about ideas and issues relatively early compared to much of the wider web, but that only makes it a (fickle) weathervane.
