Rationally, the EU agreed to buy stuff that would have bought anyway and the US decided to self impose taxes raising its internal prices.

But yeah, politically it sucks.

Funny thing: probably it sucks for Americans too.

Tariffs are not merely an internal issue though. Sure they hurt the consumers the most, but they still are a damage of the people trying to sell the items too. Those tariffs do result in people buying less that's why they exist in the first place.

That's true. Tariff will likely decrease the demand of some products that have an elastic demand. The result will be that Americans will pay 15% more for all the products, for some they will buy alternatives (where they exists) or less, and Europe will need to increase the market in the rest of the world for the share of products that cannot be sold anymore. In the short term it will likely hurt Europe too, but in the long term the impact will be basically only on the US.

The USA has never really cared about consumers being able to buy things. If they did they’d make sure to pay them enough to pay for things but they’ll cause recession after recession and then bitch about people, who they told not to drink lattes to save money, not buying their useless garbage.

No, it only sucks for the vast majority of them. If you produce locally, from local materials, you're golden! I mean, its 2025 and nobody does that anymore. But there might be a few of them left.

Except that even if you buy 100% American products, those selling them may not. When inflation happens, it happens for everyone.

Unless of course you talk about the perfect MAGA in a self-sufficient farm in the middle of nowhere, with a tinfoil hat and a cork in his ass against alien probes.

Ruggedly individualistic!

The dipshit imposing tariffs doesn't understand tariffs so yeah, it very much sucks for us.

It will impact Americans the most by far. The US is literally shooting itself in the foot.
