The running theory, from what I understand, is that with how loud the daytime is, birds have taken to communicating when it's quieter, i.e nighttime
It's 3.07am and I can hear two magpies warbling to each other.
It's also sexy season for magpies I think. Last year I had a juvenile near me all summer who would practice singing all day and night. I still can recognise his little personal song.
