The man turns 50 next week. That's 30 years knowing each other. I say to him "I know you better than you know yourself". He says "that's true".

He has the week off. It's gonna be a blast.

Someone at work has decided that Wednesdays in the office need jazzing up

They want to start something called The Hump Day Quiz and are looking for volunteers who want to be (I wish I was making this up) The Humpmaster

I can't.....

It is, but the lack of awareness is outstanding.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 1 month ago

I used to supervise young adults and I got asked by higher up how I had such a great participation rate. "Well when I see them getting restless we'll do 10 mins of quizzes". In reality we spent half the day every day doing quizzes.

Lol, give it a search with safety off. You might be able to cut this off at the pass. I suggest the Wendnesdayinator or MC Wed.

I did message the person asking if they thought the name through fully.

Yesterday I found out I’d made a mistake with the ato about 3 years ago that will most likely result in a very significant debt.

It was my fuck up, and I accept that.

I’m the one who approached them first, when I realised something was wrong which will work in my favour in a big way.

But still I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t really, really worried about the outcome.

So far they’ve been pretty good and have asked for more info. The tone of the call with the debt team was surprisingly light and the guy I spoke to said β€œeveryone makes mistakes”.

But yeah, I have enough shit to deal with right now and this on top is a lot.

Thanks for listening.

The ATO will happily work with someone to pay a debt off! They only take legal action if the entity in debt is being obtuse and evading.

You did the right thing, it will work in your favour, and you will have the option of a payment plan!

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 7 points 1 month ago

You can stretch it out over about 24 months so at least it won't be a big hit all at once

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 1 month ago

the only way to handle this is confronting it head on and getting good legal advice

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago

all G my friend. Hubs ADHD meant he didn't file his return for five years and the spankering, while impressive, was something they worked with him to develop a payment plan for.

I have locked myself out of my house like a dill. Waiting for a locksmith to come to the rescue.

Update: I'm unclear on whether my house is Fort Knox or whether this guy is a terrible locksmith. I suspect the latter.

Brush is around the wrong way, but she doesn't seem to mind

Edit: Actually, who cares about the other place. ;)

Feeling a bit better about the situation I mentioned earlier. Thanks for all the advice :)

I saw an article about a woman whose game was taken down as part of all this censorship bullshit, so she put it up on her own website as freeware. I think that's where the internet is going to have to head more now.

I'll download a game for free from somewhere, then I might just make a donation to someone for totally unrelated reasons. And do you think torrent sites will put up age verification? They're already illegal.

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm way more inclined to donate towards freeware. Calibre, VLC, WinRAR, WinAmp, uBlock, Firefox. Been using these for years. Happy to throw them a few bucks here and there.

We've always been a damn nanny state. Instead of addressing societal issues, let's slap a shit-laden bandaid on it.

At some point today I must be an adult and go - in person - to the bank

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 4 points 1 month ago

I too need to do this in the near future.

If there was a way to delete sky news remotely from foxtel packages I would love to get my hands on it (it's only my manchild dickhead boorish fucktwat of an uncle who watches it - absolutely nobody other than his wife will genuinely care when he dies). (but sadly I could not time this visit for when he would be away)

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Just got a message from the Young Seagoons, they are going to visit Young Master Seagoon's fam in Canada. 😭 This is so good, I've been so sad for him, he's been half homeless ( tho he will always have a home with us ) since covid. That's a long time not to have your own pillow.

I’m going to sleep and I can hear magpie warbling in the distance. That’s so strange at this hour.

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

The running theory, from what I understand, is that with how loud the daytime is, birds have taken to communicating when it's quieter, i.e nighttime

It's 3.07am and I can hear two magpies warbling to each other.

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago

It's also sexy season for magpies I think. Last year I had a juvenile near me all summer who would practice singing all day and night. I still can recognise his little personal song.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago

I’ve started a new medication that’s meant to help my stomach and almost immediately

spoiler

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago

soooo if you visited archie bros moorabbin and used their "Get $50 credit for $35" thing check your bank statement

Fuckers charged me $50. They're double fucked because I kept the receipt. Which says "$35"

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 1 month ago

I have finally located my sandwich press, and a few other odds and ends I've been looking for (including the cat food, Miss Meow will be pleased). I think the list of things I'm still looking for now only contains my vacuum food sealer and a bottle of oil. And I'm wondering if I imagined the bottle of oil and had actually used it all and forgotten.

I think a celebratory parmigiana for dinner might be in order.
