My modded switch lite with new shell and joycons! Got these from aliexpress since the original shell was cracked and the joycons had some dead zones. Whole process took about 3.5 hours (with child interruptions). I had some pics of the soldering but seem to have lost them.

How hard is a modchip to install? I am shit at microsoldering

[–] bigkahuna1986@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 week ago

Definitely takes practice. I've done a little microsoldering before but I also practiced moving components around on an old motherboard beforehand. Unless you have absolutely fantastic eyes a microscope is required.

Easy, pay someone $$$ to do it lol...

Less jokey, you do need reasonable microsoldering skills unfortunately.

In Australia I paid someone $150 to do mine including the pi chip.

I have chipped a normal and lite switch, the soldering itself is not the worst but seeing what you're doing is hard.
Plus on the switch lite, take great care about the battery connector. It's super fragile and can pull out when disconnecting it

If you don’t trust yourself, don’t do it. I did it as it’s just fun to do. But boy was it small. I expected things to be tiny, but I could barely see the points to solder with my eyes. I’ve setup some crappy setup with a camera to be able to see it somewhat. And it worked! But yes, be aware that it’s really small haha
