- Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible.
- Avoid controversial topics (e.g. politics or societal debates).
- Stay calm: Don’t post angry or to vent or complain. We are a place where everyone can forget about their everyday or not so everyday worries for a moment. Venting, complaining, or posting from a place of anger or resentment doesn't fit the atmosphere we try to foster at all. Feel free to post those on !goodoffmychest@lemmy.world

Yeah, I really want to push myself to do it.
I have no problem making a fool of myself in most situations, but dancing, and especially singing, have always been really REALLY hard if not impossible to bring myself to do. It's hard to explain, it doesn't feel like a fear of being judged negatively, it's some other internal fear of failure against my own expectations... Or maybe it's just an internalized fear of being judged negatively that I've had for so long I rationalized it as something else to try and make myself feel better... who knows.
I have no problem moshing or screaming lyrics with the crowd at metal shows, but trying to then take that same energy to any other environment... I think it's because in the crowd at a metal show is one of the few places I feel like I truly "belong".
Metal is my favorite genre but it's not something I can do at karaoke, it's just not the vibe at the place I go to. Closest I've done to metal is Mother by Danzig lol
I'd still recommend just going there even if you don't sing and just check out the atmosphere. Not every karaoke bar is as welcoming as the one I go to. There's one bar down the street that I know does a lot of live metal music and does karaoke on Sundays but I'm unfortunately unable to go at those days.
But also to answer the post, I've been really into Testament and Otep recently. Somehow I've never listened to Testament until recently but they fucking rock!
