Apparently this happened three weeks ago and the news is just coming out now. Winston Peters as usual has no idea what is happening and is too busy licking Trump's boots to actually say or do anything.

Originally entering the U.S. sponsored by her ex-husband, Shaw is now in the process of seeking a green card independently under a domestic violence survivor's provision. According to the GoFundMe, Shaw had work authorization but not travel permissions just yet, as part of what is known as a "combo card", while her son did.

"Sarah had been waiting on some travel documents to be approved. But once her visa and her children's visas were cleared, she felt comfortable taking them to Canada. We assumed everything was fine.“

So she is in the U.S. legally under a work permit, is seeking citizenship legally after her husband abused her (having abandoned a prior attempt at a spousal green card), and was granted a travel visa by Canada, but was not authorized to travel by the U.S.
