Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

To be fair. This can be applied to apple and windows users sometimes.

Some of us do, but you can see their eyes glaze over the moment you mention Linux...

Have you heard the good word of our Lord and savior....

    [–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Good idea. When the Mormons come by, start talking to them about Linux. If they start reading scripture, you start reading man pages.

    [–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dangerous move. What if they adopt Linux? You're then obliged to become Mormon.

    [–] peacepath@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This show the importance of licences ; if you request not only Linux but free licences, it makes it easier !

Accept to become mormon but if their scripture are provided under GNU GPL V3+, then you can hack them the way you want...

I don't think you can fork Mormonism.

    [–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Tbf aren’t most Christian religions forks? Of original Catholicism, which itself is a fork of Judaism?

    [–] peacepath@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

They are different distros, and fork of distros, of a same original project. Yet it is sad to see how the trolls of the different branches are aggressive toward others.

Don't you think switching to Linux could help them in finding better ways to promote their favorite distro?

Yet, I admit linuxians too tend to have a favorite distro they fight for even if they haven't tried most others, and therefore without knowing if theirs is really better...

Petrus just published the spec (allegededly following the design of some "Jesus"). Catholicism was one of its' early implementations it did not become dominant before the Roman Empire declared it the industry standard 300 years later.

I’m really starting to regret replying to this thread.

    [–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You can fork all religions back to paganism or tribal culture

    [–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah, but then I have to back port the wifi drivers. Fucking Debian.

    [–] peacepath@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

If you can't fork it, you would better work on an other existing project that you can fork ; or start an other one from scratch...

And (optionally) call back the mormons every 15 minutes so they join yours...

    [–] b_tr3e@feddit.org 3 points 2 days ago

man pages? Time for you to study the scripture, heathen!

    [–] Morganica@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But is it a solid distro though?
