Yeah, the shortening to "Panzer" was likely a process, but I would still say it was the name of the category throughout that process. It just seems weird to say that "tank 4" is the dedicated name for a specific model. Technically, you can refer to a specific model that way, but it is still just iteration 4 of a concept.
