mfw people start treating the neo-feudalist who throws trans people under the bus and tried to join the fascists like some savior bc 4chan memes:

[–] Soulg@ani.social 31 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

As bad as his trans stances are, still miles better than even the absolute best Republican

[–] mhague@lemmy.world 22 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I thought Newsom was a Republican. Like a sheet made from the same cloth, but draped over a more progressive shape. He calls himself whatever and pays respects to the left but it's the same kind of creature inhabiting the position.

[–] Nico_198X@europe.pub 46 points 4 weeks ago

you just described the Democratic Party

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 18 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah he will not support trans rights and maybe even erase some rights.

The current republican party is moving rapidly towards extermination camps

[–] potatopotato@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah but we still have a little over two years until the primary circus starts so I can't fault people for wanting to dream of a future they actually want to live in for the time being

[–] Soulg@ani.social 12 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

No not at all I support that fully, but I really don't want another situation where we have "milquetoast whatever vs Nazi" and people are more focused on how the Democrat isn't perfect enough to not try to stop the nazi

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Youre thinking from your own perspective. Is there something I can say that will help you understand that winning the vote means we have to steer towards popular opinion?

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 4 weeks ago (11 children)

Translation: Moving further right is the only option we have. Just stop being queer, an immigrant, or homeless and I'm sure you'll be part enough of the majority to not be disposable politically. Some of you might need to be thrown to the wolves, but that is a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

You Americans cannot abide allies or any other type of leftists, no wonder the right ate your lunch and continues to do so. You guys hate everyone. The American left has become so toxic and self isolated

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, who says a leftist can't be on the hard right.

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Problem is that anyone even slightly right of you, and you call them hard right. Shit you’ll even call people to the left of you “hard right” just for disagreeing with you on a small issue. No true leftists in the u.s. literally nobody is left enough to anyone else on the left

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

They're just expressing an opinion. No, need to villainize the entire left. We will waste more energy trying to rationalize politics with trans people then just letting them do their thing. Newsom is not a friend of the Trans community. Frankly, I know all too well from growing up, they dont have many allies. Its really sad too. I want to be there for them but if they won't be there for me, now, when we need to pull the reigns in there's nothing I can do to converge our two realities.

No one is going to rule the ashes. No one seems to want to plan the revolution. No one seems to understand that divided we fall.

I want trans people to have fulfilling lives. Is what we have now acceptable to trans people? Will the GOP get you there? Will societies clapse make a difference?

These arent questions for me to answer. So, what is it? Whats the grand plan? Does it seem rational that the trans community will lead the democrats policy when that policy is in place to win elections? Has the ground work been laid to make this possible?

Will you even hear me out?

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago (8 children)

When your beleifs differ too much from mine then we can't be allies, because those beleifs contradict.

I have respect for well-intentioned liberals, moderates and even some conservatives.

Newsom is not that. He is a selfish ball of sleeze who does whatever he thinks will benefit him most in any given moment. He’s not much better than Trump.

In this case, he's an imperfect solution to the real problem, which is trump and his fascist cronies. Literally anyone who's not down that road is better.

Is Gavin perfect? Fuck no. Not even a little.

But if it puts us in a better state than we are now, I'll welcome it.

We need to get off this fucked up train the trump era nazis have sent us down before it gets even worse.

And it will.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 11 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (2 children)

Is he actually helping though? Or just sucking up press oxygen and adding to his own brand? What is the actual benefit of this performance?

The thing that will stop Trump is widespread public resistance. Not likely Newsom’s tweets or whatever is going on right now.

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Not sure. Too early to tell. What I do know is that it's a bit of a rallying cry right now for dems/progressives. Like Mamdani is. Ride the lightning, no matter the source at this point. We need to galvanize everyone against trump. It may take any form it wishes, and we need to get behind it if we want a shot at fixing this cesspit they've made.

TL;DR; He's useful until he isn't. Then we move on to the next thing. We need people aligned and fighting trump, whatever form that takes.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 8 points 4 weeks ago

My concern is I live in California and he has not been a good or popular governor. While I appreciate any attempt to fight back against Trump, I think Newsom will make a bad president and this campaign is more about that than doing lasting damage to Trump.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 weeks ago

Or just sucking up press oxygen and adding to his own brand?

Clearly not. He's using someone else's brand.

I doubt he'll do better than any other Dem. He's a weak choice in terms of winning elections.

[–] mrlemmyhimself@lemmy.world 8 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Trump and his cronies were never the real problem, always a symptom of it. Capitalism is the problem, and Newsom is not going to fix that.

[–] gabbath@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

Well yeah, but they're also a problem on their own, in the same way metastasized cancer is a problem compared to early stages cancer. If that makes sense.

[–] RIPandTERROR@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] Lucelu2@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 weeks ago

I do not believe it. First of all, Fetterman has had a brain injury. Newsom has not.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 12 points 4 weeks ago (7 children)

These are the same assholes who watched Nancy Pelosi clap at Donald Trump and honestly thought that was a win.

Now they're paying 30%-40% more to live, if they're lucky, and just ignoring that the people they voted for enabled a genocide and man-made famine against kids.

I know Trans people less certain about the issues you claim are throwing them under the bus than you are. They think Newsom has been perfectly reasonable on Trans matters. So do I. And if you're going to use that wedge issue as an excuse to succumb to authoritarianism...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 weeks ago (10 children)

Perfectly reasonable? His position is literally the same as the far right's
