/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Yeah, I've long held conflicting views of that series. Ender's Game was a defining book of mine as a child. I even went to a book signing of Card when I was a freshman in high school, and still have the signed Ender's Game book I got there. But he is a piece of shit. It really puts to the test the concept:
You can separate the art from the artist.

Is there a limit to that? I love the look of the Hugo Boss SS uniforms from WW2. Or is it because that artistry, those uniforms, were used to oppress and murder millions of people, that makes it distasteful?

Same with Hitler and his paintings.

I love Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects and think he is personally a deplorable pedophile and rapist. But by supporting his works, I'm supporting him as a person too, right?

I have debates with myself about this stuff all the time. I'm not sure where I stand, morally, on the whole idea of separating the art from the artist.

I don't know how to answer it either. I have debates with myself about it as well.

You can separate the art from the artist.

It took me a while to listen to Demons and Wizards again when I found out its guitarist was a Jan 6er. It helped that his collaborator almost immediately disassociated himself from the band.

It's almost cliche now, but my wife has always loved the Harry Potter books and movies. It's hard being a fan of that now. The new HBO series coming out will be an interesting test of the art vs artist

I’m not an HP fan, but I see all the terf stuff Rowling posts.

Do people expect the hbo series to be boycotted or otherwise negatively impacted because of Rowling views? Or do people expect that will have very little impact on the shows popularity?

I would guess the latter, but will be interesting to see.
