Book Review. Upheaval, Jared Diamond. It was a great premise, looking at the cultural qualities that determine resilience of countries but it was both not that insightful, sometimes wrong and dated. Don't bother.
Movie Review.
So it's no secret that one of my fave children's movies of all time is the The Witches, 1990. It's one of those movies I can quote and often do! I watched so many kid's movies when Miss Seagoon was a little Seagoon ) so I thought I would watch the remake. It's not even a kid's story, it's a parody of corporate culture. But anyway.
Loved it. I love how it is set in America, the casting is wonderful, the animation was aaaaawesoooome. Fun combination of effects and animation. The purple smoke was chef's kiss. It's changed up a little, the mice aren't turned back again. Not sure why not. I think the remake was careful to be religious, which was a wise move for America.
4 hobbits
The mice stay mice in the original text as well, so in some ways (despite the setting change) this is a surprisingly faithful adaptation
oh, I didn't know that. ( Been so many decades since I read the book. eeek 🐀)
It’s a whole thing. Mouse boy’s oddly comforted to know that he’ll live for about as long as the person he loves most in the world, and in a slightly unhinged way it’s a beautiful ending
That IS a nice ending.
